Re: Big Block Header Clearance
I got headman coated headers no clearance problems except they hang a little below the frame rails. They fit like a glove. Don't remember the part # look at Sumit or Jegs.

With a motor like that you will want something with at least a 2" primary, I run Hooker Super Comps.

Re: Big Block Header Clearance
Are the hooker super comps available in stainless steel or do you have a part number?

Re: Big Block Header Clearance
They are equal length so they hang fairly low, they are lower than my headman were, I've never touched or dinged mine yet. I just saw that you were running a 496, suggested them for the best performance.

Re: Big Block Header Clearance
I purchased a set of Sanderson Headers for my 71 with a big block. They are a short set as I sit low and needed the block hugger ones. I got them coated. Here is a link for them.

Got Hedman part # 69130 (2" primary-3" collector). Installs from bottom without removing anything except dipstick. (On a 502-400T)

Re: Big Block Header Clearance
My heddman's hang to low for me. That is why I went to the Sanderson's. The Heddman are a few inches below the frame. I will see if I can find a picture of them. I did not like the fact they scraped and that when you look at a nice truck that has been lowered and you can see the headers hanging down below thr frame.

Exactly. That is the same as mine. This way I just don't have to find the pictures.

Re: Big Block Header Clearance
I recall hearing about some shorty Chevelle BB headers that were an in-between length and fit our trucks pretty well.

Re: Big Block Header Clearance
These are what I am using on my 454. Heddman #686101 17. They are the Chevelle 3/4 length. I cut a little on the passenger side from the top rail. About 3/8" wide and about 3-4i" long by the #3 and #5 cylinder tubes, just for a little clearance. The hedder hit the frame, so I just gave it a little room. Fit good on the drivers side. Dan

They came from a board member 1 1/2- 2 yrs ago. Not sure where he got them, and can't remember who it was (crs). I am just getting around to putting them to use.

Re: Big Block Header Clearance
Anybody running Chevelle Hedman headers? (for those of us on a strict budget) Wonder if they fit the same as the Hooker Comps.

Re: Big Block Header Clearance
Summit shows the hooker comps at only about $10-$15 more than the headmans. Mine were only @ $150...
