anyone know a easy way to tell the difference between a 250 and a 292 just by lookingat it other than running the #s or pulling the pan. POof my new 67 said his father in law whome he got it from said it was a 68 292 there is some yellow marking pencil marks on the valve cover but i can't make out what they say , thanks

Re: 6 cyl id
The 292 has the fuel pump back by the starter. The 250 is up by the distributor. Also the engine mounts are mounted parallel on a 250, the 292 they are staggered..

Re: 6 cyl id
another way to tell is the inspection plates on the passenger side of the engine the 250 are 3" tall and the 292 are 6" tall, I am not positive on those measurements though can someone correct me if I'm wrong?
