BEDWOOD for '69 GMC LONGHORN

Ok, about 3 months ago I started asking around if anybody knew of someplace that has pre-fab bed wood kits a '69. So far I'm under the impression that these are not made and that I'm going to have to become an expert woodworker overnight. I can probably swing it, but I'd rather buy the kit if possible. Early Classic told me all Longhorns had steel beds. Mine is living proof they're wrong. Can anybody help me out on this one?

Re: BEDWOOD for '69 GMC LONGHORN

I read recently that a sheet of 3/4" plywood could be grooved for the straps and drilled for the bolts, then stained to look like the wood kit. After looking at my box, I agree, and it seems much stronger and cheaper to me. I plan to try it using a router to make the grooves.

You can, that is what my dad did when he made the wood for his bed, make sure that you don't stain or drill the round counter sunk holes until you have test fit the strips first, also it helps to use the old wood as a pattern for the location of the bolt hole (common sencse I know) just figured I would give my two cents on previous bed replacement projects. If you can't use any of your old wood for a pattern, ask on the board and there are members who have the blue prints for the wholes and wood.

Just about every vendor sells pre cut longhorn wood kits.
no longhorns were ever built with steel floors.
Ply wood would NEVER bee stronger than planks of wood.
