Bed restore questions

I would like to know if there is a thread or a FAQ submission regarding wood bed replacement and options. I am getting ready to restore my '71 C20 and because this forum has been so helpful of other projects of mine, I would rather not re-create the wheel if I don't need to.

Any experience on vendors' products, pricing, and quality?

Thanx for whatever youv'e got.

JJ

Re: Bed restore questions

That looks really good, I will ponder that one.

I was contemplating buying the oak, ripping it to lenth, routing it, and finishing. Then refinishing the metal straps... but I am not sure the time spent will be worth the savings....HMMMM.

Any homegrown ones out there?

Jerry, I have been thinking the same thing...the time and effort to 'make' the wood would be too much IMO. By the time you got it done, you wouldn't even want to consider workign on the truck.

Re: Bed restore questions

I'm going to attempt to come up with my own creation. I'm thinking of using 6"wide pine and using a darker wood, (maybe cherry wood stained) in place of the metal strips about 1" wide. This is actually my dads idea and he is retired and is into woodworking.

Re: Bed restore questions

bad69bowtie makes wood bed kits. Pretty sure the strips don't come with it though. He lives right up the road from me. Send him a PM for prices.
