Rusty 1972 truck for free
I am new to this forum. I have always loved the 67-72 trucks so when I was offered a 72 for free I couldn't say no The truck is in really rough shape. The truck came with no box so I was thinking of shortening the frame and ordering a new short box. I also came across a picture a 1972 with a newer 90's style box, does anyone know if this is a common swap? From the picture it looks like the body lines on the new box lines up with the 72 cab?
Here is a picture of my new truck Here is a picture of a box on my truck I would like to use

Re: Rusty 1972 truck for free
Yes, it is becoming common. The 88-98 stepsides are plentiful and the body lines do line up. I've heard some people complain that the rear fender opening is not as round as the front, but it doesn't bother me. I shortened my frame and am going with a 73-87 step side because I found one in OK for $85. The rear fenders on the 73-87 cost about half of what the 67-72 ones do. I've seen these on our trucks and they look good also.

Re: Rusty 1972 truck for free
I guess I'll be one of the few that complain because I would't get caught driving a truck with a mistmatched bed
But don't pay attention to what I say, is all in fun rusty72, if you can't find an original bed a newer would serve a purpose. BTW to the board.

Welcome from Manitoba, truck don't look too bad. Heck, if the floor's missing large parts, it'll look like mine.

Can't beat the price! And owning a 72 is better than a poke in the eye with a stick.

Hey you can't beat free, thats what I paid for my 72 but it wasn't near that good of shape just needed a few parts off of it. Good luck with the build.
