Anyone running a hard linkage floor shifter?

Im in the process of installing a floor shifter into my truck. So far Ive cut the floor & welded the tunnel up to resemble an older car style manual hump. I was going to mount the shifter on the floor but a friend warned me that the hard linkage style shifters will pop out of gear if you hit a bump or anything. I can build a bracket/mount to bolt it directly to the trans so it moves with the tranny but it would be a lot more work. On the upside, it would move with the engine & look even more like a straight stick. Any opinions or experience with these shifters? Oh, its a Mr Gasket floor conversion shifter that I made a different lever for.

You need to mount it to the tranny, not the floor. The flex and movement of the engine/tranny will mess up a hard linkage shifter. Most of them provide the brackets to mount the shift to the tranny. Only thing you mount to the floor is the boot/cover.

I had a Hurst Indy shifter for my 3-speed. Similar to the Mr. Gasket set up. It should have miount brackets similar to the photos.

Thanks Bill. This shifter (mr gasket cheapie daytona) is designed to bolt to the floor but the thought of it jumping out of gear bothers me. Id like to stick with it because it goes with the vintage style I am going with on my truck. Thanks again for the pointers. Ill be making a plate for it this weekend & bolting to directly to the trans.
