few questions on my 86 k10 700r4 305

Ok first off I found 2 plugins by the transmission unplugged. One I found the spot on the trans for it to plug into. I do not know what it was does anyone know? here's a pic...

That's the one plugged in I foudn the other, is made just like it but with 2 less prongs or tubes on it, it has 2 and the one I plugged in has 4.

I was told there should be a plugin for the electric TC lockup, and it be behind the lankage/ trans. arm or shift lever whichever you call it. Well I looked even snapped couple pics no plug in close to it.

The next question concerns a knock that has developed. It's not that normal though. It only does it once the engine is warm and been drove some like 5-10 miles maybe or less. It sounds to be deep inside like down bottom, and from passenger front. We've listened to it with a piece of hose to the block and found it to be coming from down low it seemed, listened to the timing cover, and fuel pump, valve covers and on the intake. When it's cold you don't hear it. it doesn't knock when cold, only 2 times has it done anything when cold, it's had a bad rattle or knock on first fire when you had to give it a little too much gas via the pedal, had a quick second or less rattle or knock that sounded BAD!!!! I mostly hear it when it's in neutral or park, one day I could hear it in reverse when I didn't touch the pedal, but as soon as I gave it gas it went away. It also when in park or neutral goes with the engine speed. Like if it's idling slow it's slow far between knock. If faster idle faster together knocks. I done an oil change on it thinking the oil might have broke down, since we found a blown heater core, running hot for awhile off and on, and replaced radiator because it was leaking, and put on new water pump at the same time. When I dropped the filter, after setting overnight, there was hardly any oil in it. However, put on a new one, drove it, let it cool off, pulled it off and was full. I run 10w 40 castrol gtx in it. It has new cam, lifters, timing set in it as of last sept or oct. Valve lash was set right and everything. it just started doing this a week ago. The tv cable was also a little tight, and so in the parking lot going slow, letting off, going slow again, it would hold first like a standard, and when you'd let off you could hear the knock bad, almost like lifters floating out. I loosened the cable one notch to put it back how it always was and now 1st doesn't stick like that so it only knokc s once warm.

Ok now for things people suggested and I tried. For one the torque convertor or TC bolts are tight, starter bolts are. I watched the flexplate with it running, didn't wobble or nothing like it was cracked. I really don't have a way of checking it without pulling the trans or motor to inspect for cracks.

I also have no checked to see if it changes by pulling off one wire at a time while running. That's my next project. So please if you have any ideas on what plug is what or where the one goes or does, or just an opinion or something to check on the knock, please reply.

Thanks for reading this long mess.

Chris.

Looks like you are running headers on that?

Do you still have an O2 sensor?

Re: few questions on my 86 k10 700r4 305

NO it never had one on it that I know of. We took the manifolds off ourselves and put on some dynomax headers. I took off the manifolds and nothing was hooked to them except for one vacuum line to the intake off that I think it's called efe or something valve in the passenger side manifold.

Not to say that at one time it did, but wouldn't it be in the manifold or would it be in the y-pipe from factory?

Someone else said it looked like the tpi cars like 3rd. gen camaro firdbird purge can wires to the charcoal canister.

Here's some info on the lock up http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/lockup.htm Not sure on what the plugs are. Could the tranny be from a 93+ model truck/car?

I don't know it's like the truck has extra plugins and not the transmission.

Re: few questions on my 86 k10 700r4 305

Honestly I don't know if it locks up or not. Mainly driven around town as a daily driver.

Shifting sucks. No power, slips into 2nd, and shifts fast, yet shifts are where they should be, like at 15 mph to 2nd and etc. It's been unhooked since we had it, and has shifted the same since we had it. But new carb, new cam, lifters, and performance cam, proper timing and carb adjust, no improvemnts.

Started adjusting the tv cable, won't work as it should where you pull it back, release and mash the pedal a few times, doesn't work, still way to tight.
Got it adjusted to where it had great power, but kinda hang 1st too long, esp. as mentioned in like a parking lot, it was like driving a standard shift and leaving it in granny or first.

Shortly after the knocking started, so I adjusted it back down one click and it put it where it has been. Slippping into 2nd, no power etc. To be honest I don't know now but before the kickdown worked, passing gear would engage, with it tighter one click, you had no kickdown, passing gear would not engage.
However I'm not sure if it even does now or not. Everytime you get the 4 barrell kicked in or passing gear something on the truck lets go. First is was a gasket, then another, then the radiator, then heater core, now knocking.

If the knock persists and it is, and I'm already looking for one, we are going to build something bigger then a 305, like a 350, 400 or bigger. Whatever we can get cheap or for free. Rebuild it and put it in.

Or if we can get the knock to stop, and be reliable to drive around town, we are still going to find an engine to rebuild but can wait and take our time to do it right. Esp. if we can't get some power out of this thing. Might have to change transmission to get away with this OD electric crap.
