I am looking for a source for the power steering pump brackets for a 71 big block, also what pumps (years) will fit work on this application. any help would be appreciated.

try RV's with big blocks might be an untapped resource, might even be lucky and find a tilt column

Is the original pump a remote resivour? I found one from a motorhome today but the tube was twisted going into the back of the pump. It was remote res without the res. He wanted $75 for it.
I'm new to trucks, I have a 70 elcamino and 66 chevelle so I know enough about the A body, I'm starting over with this 71.

I got this at a junk yard from a 68 or 69 Suburban.The engine was gone so I don't know what it was attached to.I got this for sale in the parts forum.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...threadid=25901

71 big block should be a long water pump and easy enough to find P/S brackets for. If nothing else, you can get them from the dealer. I bought mine with a pump on Ebay for $27. I see that someone sells LWP P/S brackets on Ebay all the time for a starting price of $32.95. The SWP brackets are harder to get but I think the same guy has them available starting at $44.95

I also didn't think that 71 had the remote res. Pump and res should be together.

Pont, it's my understanding that all big blocks are short water pumps, can anyone correct me? I know mine IS a short water pump. ( I had to replace it when I bought the truck)
There must be someone that has done this conversion and was unable to find the parts used?

You can still buy the pump with the houseing for the BB's. I got one for my 72 from AutoZone I think for $59. They have it with or without the res.

All of the trucks in this searies from 67-72 that had came origanally with any V-8 (Small Block or Big Block) had SHORT water pumps. The brackets that are on that e-bay link are for the long water pump. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Good info Wes, I had thought that all GM had went to long pump in 69 like they did in passenger cars. The big block in my truck came out of a 66 Chevelle and was originally a short water pump. It's using a long pump now so when I added power steering, I had to buy P/S brackets for the long pump, of course.

Nice stuff, Rod...68-72 truck only (a few Chevelles)! That setup is not cheap...but there are a few around for sale for those who really care enough to run the very best...or something like that.

I'm curious as to what others have done to complete this swap,
is there an alternative to running the original setup on a BB?
I want to keep this a low cost driver, so inexpensive and reliable
are my goals. But I will spend the money on new parts if I must.

I just bought the PS pump brackets from Micah (Desert Rat). They are what you would find in a BB Chevelle with a long water pump. Allows you to use a pump with the built in resevoir. I believe that Micah told me he had some sets left. Good luck.
