newbie with a couple questions
hi everyone...
i just got a 1981 GMC C1500... this is my first car in a few years and i've got a few questions... 1) is the shortbox and longbox interchangeable? (the boxes) 2) how hard is it to put a tach in? (350 engine) 3) it's got an electronic choke... so when i start it cold, i should put the gas pedal to the floor as i turn it??? that's what the last owner told me.... that'd be it for now.... none of my vehicles ever stayed stock, so i'm sure with your help this one should evolve into something different also... thanx |

stock tach or after market. after market is easy the Hei distributor is even labled "tach". Stock tach is a bit more work you have to change the wiring harness under the dash

1. Boxes not interchangable unless you cut 13" to fit a short bed.
2. Tach is no problem. You can mount one on the steering column dash, bezel and next to the radio. I installed a digital tach in my instrument bezel. Just go my web site below and click on "Cab and Instruments" or recent pictures. I have digital guages for oil pressure, voltmeter and temperature. Your HEI has spade connection for the signal which makes adding one very easy. 3. You don't have to hold the gas pedal down. Just tap it good once and let go. This will set the choke (close it) making the engine easier to start. Mine didn't stay stock either. Got three trophy already. |
