What should I do with this truck?

Hopefully I'm putting this in the right forum. I'm not looking to *sell* anything in this ad, but that may be what it comes down to, so I wanted to make sure to get a subscription beforehand, just in case.

Well I seem to have finally collected enough parts to start my project. I actually picked up a whole truck I don't technically *need.*

So, yeah, what should I do with this truck?

It's a '68 long step, 250-6 three on the tree. No options at all except for the factory AM radio that doesn't work. It doesn't even have arm rests.

146k original miles, I believe. Needs a bit of brake work, a carrier bearing, and a carb rebuild. Otherwise it runs fine; I drove it 20 miles from the former owner's house to mine. He said, up until a year or two ago, he used it as a daily driver.

He got it from the son of the original owner with the intentions of restoring it. He never got that far, and he just wanted it gone. I went thinking I could get a good parts truck, and yes, it would be a great parts truck. The front clip is completely solid with just light surface rust on the passenger's wheel well and radiator support. No holes. Same with the fenders. Doors are a bit nasty, but very fixable and very solid. One small hole in the passenger's side floor, and in one of the rockers. The step bed is wood, and of course it's shot. Somebody put a diamondplate steel floor in it. The bed's rusting around the edges of that floor. Other than that the tailgate, fender flares, steps, etcetera are all soliid.

Thing is, I think the truck is too nice to use as parts. So I'm thinking about selling it. I'd hate to part it out just for the front clip I need, but I do need a solid front clip.

Pictures can be seen at http://www.drakkolupen.com/cars/68truckpics/ .. most of them are of a green truck, which is the truck in question. Take a peek; I've got good photos of the problem areas.

Tell me what you guys think? Scrap it or sell/ trade it?

Re: What should I do with this truck?

I think you should go ahead and part it.

I once sold a 71 Camaro thinking it was better off going to someone who would take care of it. I found later it had been impounded and the dude didn't bail it out.

Re: What should I do with this truck?

if you have the room for it to sit..take the parts and part it out on here...since its a bit rusty here and there and a plain jane truck, just take what you need and see whats left for others.

Re: What should I do with this truck?

Yeah, the green one. The blue one's my CST, and the black/orange thing is a basketcase with a jewel under the hood.

And I was thinking, if somebody from here bought it, it might get a good home. ;P

Re: What should I do with this truck?

I didn't look at all the pics, but it looks too good to part out to me, that would be a nice truck if it was fixed up. It looks unmolested, those are the very best to start with, that fact that no one has half-a$$ed fixed or wrecked anything is worth $1000 by itself. The ones you want to part are the crunched or molested or the too far gone ones. People drive trucks that are a lot worse than that one. !!!

Re: What should I do with this truck?

So far I've got 2 that say part it and 2 that say it'd make a good restored truck.

See, now, that's my exact problem. I'm split down right down the middle on this truck. Guess I could post an ad and see if it gets any bites.

Re: What should I do with this truck?

If you have a front clip to put back on it, swap them then sell it. That's a vote to part and sell, so no help there.

Re: What should I do with this truck?

I do! And the thought had crossed my mind. But the clip I have isn't remotely as nice as what it's got, so I've been keeping that notion on the back burner.

Re: What should I do with this truck?

Well, if your just gonna sell it, use the parts you want. That's what I would do (if I could ever make myself sell one of my rust buckets)

Re: What should I do with this truck?

Don't part it out. I mean, c'mon, go to my webpage and look at what I drive. Finding a 67-72 that might be a little rough, but has otherwise not been monkeyed around with is a good truck. I would much rather spend time correcting age/wear/rust issues, than undoing the modifications or "repairs" of a previous owner.

Restore or sell.

Re: What should I do with this truck?

I agree with the majority here, sell it as a whole truck. That would be a good starter project for someone because it isn't some hacked up freakshow. Unmolested stuff is hard to find.
