Noisy Speedo???

My speedometer makes a chirping noise. The needle was jumpy, but I pulled the cable and put graphite lubricant on it. That fixed the needle, but my speedo still has an annoying chirping.

Any ideas?

Re: Noisy Speedo???

Hey Dan, I did the same thing you did but instead of using graphite lubricant I went ahead and use some 3 in 1 oil that you can get at any auto parts store! Put a couple of squirts in the cable and in the back of the speed O where the needle goes in!! Eventually it should work its way smooth if not then you might need to buy a new speedo!!

Re: Noisy Speedo???

You'll need a hammer, and duct tape.

Just kidding.

If you tried the graphite, you may want to try a little more, and make sure you get some on the gauge side of the connection. If it is the gauge having the problem sticking (producing the sound) the the cable isn't gonna help being lubricated except for getting rid of that jump you mentioned...

Hopefully you want need a new gauge though.

Hey orange, I was looking at your site. Where is Catoosa County? I'm originally from Georgia...the Army just doesn't let me get back there that often.

Re: Noisy Speedo???

It's the county right before you get into TN if you are coming up I-75 (GA's main interstate - sure your familar being from here).

Actually - there is an army rifle range in Catoosa County about 10 minutes south of me.

Reckon I need to blur out my tag on that one pic for any reason? What can people do with that info anyhow?

Re: Noisy Speedo???

It is most likely the counter balance weight inside the speedo making that noise you are hearing. I suggest you pull the cluster and remove the gauge backing plate from the bezel and lens and use some lithium grease on the inside of te speedo and that should rectify the chirping sound. Re: Noisy Speedo???

Mine made noise when I had it on too tight, I took it off, looked at it, and put it back hand-tight and the noise went away... Odd I know.
