State Registration, Classic or Antique?

I have heard many different versions of how and why you should register your vehichle as "classic" or and "antique". I have a 67 Chevy pickup the came from another state and I have to resiter it in Texas. Can anyone tell me what benefits come from registering it one way or the other? Like which one helps keeps insurance lower?

Well, I live in Canada. In a province where the Government runs liscencing and Insurance. But here's what I pay / get. Mine is registerd as an Antique. You have to have another vehichle in your name to do this. But there's not much for restrictions other than not for buisiness use. Cost about $140 per year, $11.50 per month or something. If it gets totaled you get a cheque for $700-- Tops. But it includes liability. You can pay for additional vehicle value or "package policy's" with a recognized apprasal. Very basic coverage, but you're legal. I'm sure throughout North America there's dozens of varaiables depending on where you live

Every state is different. BTW West Virginia just changed there law to allow antique and classic vehicles to be able to drive more on the road than previous years

look for the texas DPS (DMV) site and look it up. You'll get nothing but the facts for your state.

Classic in Texas does not have any restrictions. You just pay extra for either using your year plates or state supplied Classic plates. Antique is restrictive driving. Parades, exhibitions, items of public interest, shows, etc. So if you are going to use the truck as a frequetn driver, do Classic.

HERE IN ILLIONIS...you can't tow anything or use a trailer with a antique plate

what good is this for a guy with a 69 c-20 or anybody for that matter

I registered my '69 in TX as a normal truck (I'm cheap). The Classic plates are for "show" and don't create any restrictions. As mentioned above the Antique plates are for limited use (and I don't recommend it).

in wisconson we have collector plates. i think they run about $175 but you only have to buy them once and never have to renew them. i belive the only restriction is you can't drive with them in febuary and vehicle cant be drasticly modified, such as a blower or tunnel ram sticking through the hood. on heavaly modified cars and trucks you can buy hobiest plates. with these you can make extream mods but vehicle must be inspected by dot

I'm not putting classic or antique plates on my truck...because it sits in my driveway and I don't want anyone to think it's worth something...and steal it! Just plain old NE plates for me

I live in Houston and regestered mine normally, it cost me $60.80, for the registeration and $12.50 for the inspection on Friday the 19th of May. If I had registered it as a Classisic I could've added another $50.00 bucks to that and if I had wanted to run a correct year plate I think thats another $75.00. Sorry I ain't that anal.

Yeah mine just have regular plates to. I can't see giving my money to the state for the same plate w/classic truck on it. I am cheap also. pretty soon Texas will have one that says "New Car". They have more plates than anywhere I've ever Been
