How many stay with factory colors
How many of you guys go back with a factory color when you re-paint? Choices are pretty limited but like the idea of staying with a color that is consistent with the time period of the truck.
Let's see some pictures with factory colors.. http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-...arch/search.pl

My 1970 truck paint isn't on there... I'm still toying with that original gold...maybe a shade or two off

Re: How many stay with factory colors
I would always go with a factory color, but rarely do I ever find one that is or was one of the original colors I like. I have to change it to a different FACTORY color.

Re: How many stay with factory colors
Im almost to the point that I have to paint my truck. After about 3 months of battling with myself between black and medium blue I asked my 4 year old son and he tells me Orange Daddy!! Out of all the oranges he picks Hugger Orange. So guess what color my truck is going to get painted

Re: How many stay with factory colors
I am painting my truck the same color it was from the factory. Atleast as close as the paint shop could get it.
This is before [IMage]http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c143/bs25j/My%20project/?action=view¤t=color.jpg[/IMage] This is the color that im painting it [IMage] http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...rent=color.jpg[/IMage] Its not the best pic but it is a pretty close match. Re: How many stay with factory colors
well I'm still torn,as these trucks look good in any color.Mine was light green, which looks good on some trucks,I'll prolly paint it primer,it's easier to match

Re: How many stay with factory colors
If it was an nice color, the truck is a stock-ish type resto, or a 2 tone with white I like the original shades. If it was just a base truck that is going to be modded/rodded, then I would pick something I liked out of a chip book.

Re: How many stay with factory colors
I do.I only have even changed to another color so far when I`ve scratch-built a truck.I like all the colors and rarely have even changed to another factory color or different year factory-pac.This may change if I ever get my`67 GMC pro-street built.I`m thinking black cherry, because it`s BAD!!.

Re: How many stay with factory colors
I went down to the local Dupont paint shop and they had original paint ships to match each years. I had then mix up a quart of Hugger orange and a pint that was put into spray cans. I like the original old school look.

Re: How many stay with factory colors
For me it depends on what the intent of the vehicle is. If I'm going for a stock look then I'll likely pick the original color. IMO some vehicles only look good with an original color. I will likely change the color of my '67, because I don't really care for the light blue, it looks too whimpy... I am considering the same color as the Hairy Hauler.

Re: How many stay with factory colors
I thought medium blue was a color for these trucks.... but I added metallic to mine and it is urethane, so it's similar to original style... Should be done with paint in a month or so.......

Re: How many stay with factory colors
We have 2 trucks, both close to stock. The 68 has the red/orange and white, nice combo so we stayed with that. The 70 was dark olive metallic, a little to dark for me, we found a newer green metallic from a 2000 truck that is close but more metallic looking, so it should look stock but lighter. If you can find a factory color from 67-72 years that you like, I would do that, else paint it what you want to, very expensive to do over.

Re: How many stay with factory colors
I'm going to be doing mine in a 1996 GM color Emerald Green Metallic. It was the color of my old GMC and I really like the color. It'll be a solid color on the 70. I'm not normally a green person (especially if it looks military), but I liked this shade so the 70 will have the 96's paint.

Both of mine are factory colors. The SEE TEN is medium red (still hunting a paint code guys).
And the K10 is listed as Dark Green. |

Re: How many stay with factory colors
I like the original colors on mine, but drove it for about 6 years like that and when the time came for the frame off, decided to go one color and something reminiscent of the late 60's Marina blue that was on many GM cars. The color is 99-00 Corvette and I am going to put the lower moldings back on.
Personally I think that almost any color will work if it is a quality paint job and the truck has the right stance. Last edited by SactoJim; 10-04-2007 at 05:13 PM. |
