Opinion please...
So - I'm going to attempt to attempt taking the tub off the frame Sat morning - I'm really jonesing to get my frame powdercoated - and I can get it done for free - I'm thinking I'm going to do it on the side of the house - cause my garage is barely big enough to hold flatulence...
Anyway - I have a nice concrete pad on the side of the house - and I drew this up today - a frame built from 2x6s - the Blazer will either be on top - or have another cross bar underneath - so that the A-frame is supported while I'm jacking the body up. The dimensions shown are purely reference and are subject to change and/or miscalculation. The lifting will be done with an engine hoist - this will merely be used to hold the tub - (not to string a hoist from) Thoughts - opinions - any better ideas I'm probably going to spray paint the A-frame chrome - just so it is a little stronger - (and so the neighbor has something nice to look at) ![]()

Re: Opinion please...
I'd attach the whole thing to a piece fof 3/4 ply wood to tie the bottoms of the legs together. It would be flat so you could roll the frame out from under the tub.

Re: Opinion please...
i'd think you should put a small diagonial from the uprights to the cross bar to prevent it from a side to side wobble

Re: Opinion please...
I saw that - I just don't know how I'd support that - I'm not worried about lifting the body off the frame (or maybe I am a little bit) - I'm worried about supporting it securely outside -

Re: Opinion please...
You would need lateral support somewhere. Whether inside the the legs (cross beam) or outside.

Re: Opinion please...
I used 4x4's on those prebuilt metal sawhorses which i beefed up with some added shearing and the 4x4's broke. I then switched to 4x6's and it held the blazer's body up while i rolled out the chassis.. i used two 4x6's 10' in length and 4 of those sawhorses. just offering an example of what did and did not work for me. Hope it helps!!

Re: Opinion please...
Milk crates and drywall buckets is all I use. But,then again,I`m down to 1 1/2 arms,1 foot and my head is kinda flat on one side.I think they did a great job, though.Besides, who can see both sides at the same time?I always turn my head a little while talking to people in front of me.Oh!I have a safety tip:Make sure there are people around when you nab the milk crates.I thought the opposite and tryed when no one would see.Well,a guy from the store was goin`on a smoke break and musta heard me from inside. He grabbed his shotgun an put a load in my tail.I think I limp more from that than from the prosthetic.

Re: Opinion please...
I've used the post's on saw horse thing brfoe but put in back on with a cherry picker.
I went slow and was very methodic but it still made for an interesting chore. I had already sectioned off the firewall so it was a fair amount lighter. |
