I am now PROUD owner of a 72 c10. its in pretty good shape it has the 402 in it 3/4 ton long bed. I want to convert it to a 1/2 ton which I already have the parts truck for that. Here is the problem its a long bed and I am trying to find a short bed am I trying the impossible or what. I have looked all over the internet and called some people with no luck. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. Thanks guys

I converted my longbed to a shortbed. They are out there but good ones are costly

Take a look in the FAQ forum here. There is a well written "How To" article concerning this. As far as a bed goes, your probably better off trying to find a truck with a usable bed. Clean rust free beds may go for 700-800+ You might be able to find a complete truck for a few hundred more and sell of all the parts you don't need to recoup your purchase costs.

It is also possible to cut a bed down, we have a member doing that also. But it shouldn't be impossible to find a short bed. If nothing else, subscribe and post a wanted to buy thread on the parts board.

Buy all new pieces and make your own shortbed.

Well you could build a new one, buy a decent condition long bed and chop it down or try to pry a nice condition short box out of someones cold dead hands. I almost paid 2k for a swb truck that had a killer bed and decent sheetmetal in the cab and front clip. Good beds are hard to find...good luck!

I'm with 72CST, buy the pieces and build your own. I've converted my long wheel base to short and plan on putting one together. Seems expensive at first but with the price of bodywork, rust repair, etc, new seems to work out better. I do some of my own work but I'm not good enough to take on an entire bed panel in regards to bodywork.

i have a 72 c10 thats a long bed that iv just started to work on and i don't know why u what to make it a short bed. long beds look so much better when there laid out. when they have a short bed on it they look to small.

I shortened my frame, then put a bed together from Goodmark parts. Check with any of the vendors here on the board for the best prices and best service.
