windows binding when rolling up/down

my '71 has this problem and i was wondering if its a common thing or not. when i crank the window up and down it feels like the gears are binding up or catching and i have to back up on the crank a little bit to unbind it. i havn't opened up the door yet to investigste it and am looking for a heads up before i actually get in there and dig around.....tia

For the price of new regulators it is not worth repairing them sometimes. If you are going to put in all of the labor to take off the trim panel and pull out the regulators to inspect them you may as well replace them. Pretty common problem on these trucks.

Re: windows binding when rolling up/down

taking the inner door panels off and spraying the tracks and gears is alot easier and cheaper than replacing the regulators //sometimes 30+ years of crap slows things down and gums things up

Taking the door panels off is easy, and if just cleaning and lubing things fixes it, then you have saved some $$$

Re: windows binding when rolling up/down

Just fixed one yesterday that was frozen. Had to use a vise grip on the crank to get it to turn any. Sprayed the gears and rollers with WD40 and worked it a few times, worked good, did not even have to take regulator out, which would have been pretty hard to do when it was frozen. After sitting a day, it works like new now.

Re: windows binding when rolling up/down

My truck has nylon bushings that run in the tracks that are no longer "round"...square on two sides due to abrasion probably caused by rust and junk in the regulator tracks. You can probably get by with some lube, but unless you replace the regulators (not sure if you can replace the nylon bushings) it will be a reocurring issue...
