truck insurance

can anyone reccomend a insurance carrier that will insure my truck. I currently have insurance through my standard policy and they are charging me 650 p/yr! and thats just for liability. I tried haggerty, but they wouldn't insure because the bed has not been restored. any suggestions would be very helpfull

thanks

Re: truck insurance

i live in texas, don't know if it's available everywhere, but on my old vehicles i've used a local agent with great american insurance group. you can state the miles you drive a year and they set premiums on that, but for mine it's usually ran about $100 a year full coverage. you might look into that.

Re: truck insurance

I have been with AAA for 9 years and am getting ready to turn my policy over to a Classic Car policy. I have no idea yet what the rates are, but AAA does have a Classic Car policy. I'm sure it is like no more than 5-7k mikes a year limit or some thing, but I don't really expect to drive it more than that with gas prices anyways.

Re: truck insurance

Give Haggerty a call or check them out on line. I have my 71 insured with them for $33K, and its less than $500 a year. No mileage restrictions, roll back service if you break down (50 miles). The only thing I remember them being a stickler about is that it must be kept in a locked garage. They required a few photos of the complete truck in order to "agree" on the value. I had no problems with getting my policy. Yellow69 recommends them, as do a few other board members.

Geico here, I'm paying $95 per 6 months for my 85, and I think like $86 per 6 for the 72.

Re: truck insurance

There are many other factors that play into the cost such as your age, driving record, fequency of usage, number of vehicles on policy and location. If you live close to a major road/freeway where there are a lot of wrecks (out here it's called the I-5 slot, Everett to Olympia. More wreck take place there than anywhere else in the all the NW states) The price goes way up. Sit down with your agent as ask all the hard questions. If you let them know they are about to lose your policy over $$ maybe they can trim so fat. I have Progessive but you will never hear me brag on there customer service.... there is none, it's just cheap.

Re: truck insurance

I have Hagerty on my 72. I started the policy with the truck in a million pieces. They just had me send pictures of it's progress. There was no time limit, they just said it had to be in active restoration. I insured it for $10,000 for $180 per year. I dont see why they would not insure your truck if you are "actively" looking for a bed, or getting the parts together to fix yours. The Hagerty policy even includes roadside assistance with flatbed service. A good friend had his 32 F*#d destroyed in a fire, and had absolutely no problem making a claim. That is why I chose them. Just my 2 cents.

Re: truck insurance

thanks guys!
I placed a call back to haggerty and they reconsidered once i explained that i was restoring the vehicle and convinced them that I don't use the vehicle for hauling. Saved me about 500 bucks....I'll be making another donation to the board!

Re: truck insurance

$650/yr isn't that bad. I got quotes from a bunch of different companies and they were all around $2000/yr. for full coverage. It's probably due to the fact that I am 17.

Great American classic car insurance has been acquired by Infinity Insurance co. I got $21,000 on mine full coverage for 161.00/year.
