Talk about tolerance stacking..
Been trying to fit a pair of 69 doors to my 67 cab. Drivers side has been no problem, but the passenger side I just cant seem to get. The door doesnt conform to the shape of the cab well, and it hits the windshield pillar. Discovered damage in the pillar so had to fix that. Door still won't fit right. By the time you get it flush with the cowl and the bottom of the windshield pillar the top of the window frame hangs out and theres over 3/4" of space where the gasket goes.
So I get to measuring. I've got 2 rusted out doors, a good one on my daily driver, and my brothers truck here too. Seems the 69 door i've been working with measures 1.5" from outer lip to the gasket surface... A couple of others are 1 5/8s... my truck and my brothers both measure 1 3/4. 1/4" difference!!!! So since my brothers truck is the easiest to cannibalize. I took his door off and tried it on the 67.. The back edge is nearly perfect. The body lines both line up, where the other one was 1/4" off. The rear bottom edge of the door does not hang out from the cab like the 69 door. Conforms right to the shape. And the gasket gap is only 1/2". I've still got some windshield pillar work to do, then it will be even closer. Now, to primer my 69 door black and put it on my bro's truck....
