67-72 with white wide wall tires? Pics?
Anyone have any pics of wide whites on these years? I'm thinking of going for the rat rod look. I know they look good on the earlier years, Thanks,,,,,,

well at least you guys are different coasts. I was going to do it on a rat rod truck. A buddy of mine got these wide white inserts, put them on the tires and did on a black primerd 86swb and it looked good.

Gotta love the rat rod look, I think our years look good in that style, they are just old enough to get away with it. Plus you cant argue the $$ factor, the more beat the better!

Re: 67-72 with white wide wall tires? Pics?
I`m doing a ratrod `72.I`m staying "era-correct" with the narrow whitewall.I won`t be savind any money,though.I bought a rare set or 8x15 5-lugs($125),had them blasted & powdercoated red($260),and am having custom-made Wide Oval 3/8" whitewall 275/60 radials made(just under $800).I have some 69-72 full wheelcovers that I believe I paid around $50 for.So,thats over $1,200 for the look I want.It`s more of a late`60s/early`70s rat look I`m going for.

Had these on a 71 SWB Copper & White Cheyenne...not really a rat rod...more of a "period" look.

Re: 67-72 with white wide wall tires? Pics?
NitroMike, what wheels and tires are you running? My truck has ralleys on it now and I am very tempted to powdercoat them Red Barron, then install some white walls.
I might run a smaller tire than that to clear my inner wells when dumped. That looks very good, by the way. |

Re: 67-72 with white wide wall tires? Pics?
JimmyD,
I'm running Coker 225/70 up front on 80 Chevy stationwagon 15"X7" 5 on 5 wheels (will clear disc kit) and Coker 255/70 on WheelVintique Smoothy 15"X8" 5.5 on 6 wheels. Paint is rattlecan Rustoleum Safety Red. Front wheel location is only mocked-up (notice the floorjack under tire) but the picture shows actual rear ride hight. 2" drop springs in front with 2.5" dropped spindles. Back has 4" drop springs with 1.5" lowering blocks. The Tremec 5-speed on the floor has been installed since this picture was taken. Glad you like it. NitroMike

Re: 67-72 with white wide wall tires? Pics?
I haven't decided on a tire yet, it depends on how low my truck will be when it's done. I have 2.5" drop spindles with a 7" Slam Specialties bag in the front and 2" block, CPP c-notch and 6" Slam Specialties bag in the rear.
I will rattle can my existing wheels when I pull them off to do the disc front. I have a ton of Red Barron powder, so if I like the look, I will get new tires and shoot my existing wheels. I hope to have some pictures before the end of the month. I will put my new grill and front bumper on this weekend and start to mock up my plumbing as well. |

Re: 67-72 with white wide wall tires? Pics?
Sounds great. While you can use wider wheels and tires than I have, The ones I chose should present the no clearence problems no matter how "low you go". After mine is running again I thought that I might end up adding bags also. I'd love to see your progress.

Re: 67-72 with white wide wall tires? Pics?
I just sanded this tire down today and "made" my own wide white wall. Looks pretty decent. Also shows what it looked like before.

Re: 67-72 with white wide wall tires? Pics?
I used some kind of stripping pad on my drill motor and then touched it up with sandpaper. I was surprised at how easy it was. The only thing i'm worried about is that my front and back tires are different brands and don't know if they will have the same size of white wall. I'll find out next weekend when I get around to do them.
