Stuck Thermostat?
When I've parked the truck after driving it the past 2 days, I've noticed that i've been dropping some coolant overflow. The temperature's been in the low 90's which is to say average for around here and I haven't added any coolant in months. Once it cools down I'll check the radiator to see how much has been dropped but what do you guys think? Normal or possible stuck thermostat?
Oh yeah, my temp gauge doesn't really work either. |

Re: Stuck Thermostat?
take the thermostat out and take something like a torch or maybe a lighter even or something to heat it with hold it with some pliers and see if it opens shouldn't take more than a minute or two that will tell you if its stuck

Re: Stuck Thermostat?
Heat some water up to the temp it is supposed to open up at and drop it in and see what it does, if it doesn't open all the way up it is shot. I would say don't use a torch or direct flame, just because it opens with a torch doesn't mean it will open with hot water.

Re: Stuck Thermostat?
Thansk for the advice all, I'll give the hot water a try.
cdowns, I haven't topped off the coolant in a couple of months so I'm not sure why it would start overflowing now all of a sudden. |

Re: Stuck Thermostat?
before you pull the t stat you could pull the radiator cap, clamp off the heater hoses and let it run till it gets hot. the water in the radiator should appear to be to be moving if your t stat is good as well as your upper and lower hoses should be hot , your radiator could be plugged as well .
