Seat Belt Question
Ok, simple seat belt question, how hard is it to swap out the lap belts in my 73 to shoulder belts like the ones in the 91 burbon that I’m parting out? I work with developmentally disabled adults and have to transport them from time to time in my vehicle and the extra safety would be nice.. It looks like there was some kind of provision on the cab for shoulder belts, but they were never installed. You can see the pic below for what I'm talking about.
Thanks Norm |

Re: Seat Belt Question
That looks like the threaded hole needed for shoulder belts. The worst part of the job will be the bolts that attach the belts to the floor pan. Most of the ones I have dealt with were stupid tight and seized up with rust. The nuts that capture the floor pan bolts are typically only tack welded to the floor, so they frequently pop loose when you start wrenching on the bolt.

Re: Seat Belt Question
Some 73-78's had factory shoulder harnesses. The recoil mounts behind the seat in the back corner. The newer models mount at the side of the seat kind of like the lap belts. I haven't taken the time to figure out how the newer mouning position is different from the old lap belts. When I went to try and put some 85 belts in my 75, I drilled some new holes and then found out that I would have to pull the gas tank to get to the back of the bolt and I quit. I'm curious to find out the best way to do it too. The 73-78 shoulder harnesses mount right where I have custom speaker boxes, so its safety or good tunes. I'll take my chances.

Re: Seat Belt Question
I put a set of seat/shoulder belts out of a 94 C1500 Extended cab and put in my older 82. They worked real well and bolted right up to all the stock locations (Must use the etended cab zersion, rgular cabs won't fit). Not sure if the mounting spots are different for your 73 from my 82. the outter floor bolts were to the side of the seats. And, like mentioned took a lot of grunt power and PB Blaster to get the out.
