budget rear bags

because i like the the look of my 07 tahoe 20 factory wheels with 275-55-20 tire (31 inch tall). i wont have to lower it a lot to get the look i want. i am going to use a spindel, and mild spring set up for front. i want to bag rear so i can adjust to the look i want, good ride, tow and carry cargo. my question is, i have some firestone kits leftover that i used for cargo assist on some f-150s i lowered with aaxel flip kits. will these work? also i have some in cab controllers, both single gauge and dual gauge. will these work. idont think i need tanks for what i am doing, right or wrong? somebody said these bags would work, but i bought them to use WITH leaf springs in place. will they be strong enough? if these wont work what part number from firestone should i use? i want to use firestone because i can get good pricing on their parts. i know most of you guys do this in your sleep, but bags are new to me. please help. thanks pkj

Re: budget rear bags

Post up some pics of the bags so we can see what you're working with. Also, if it's real "budget" why not just use a schrader valve instead of having a compressor and valves. Of course, if you're going to be inflating and deflating the bags often it would be better to use a compressor, tank, and valve set-up.... but then there goes "budget"!

Re: budget rear bags

Sounds like you have a helper bag setup. I guess it would be possible to run it without a tank, although I'm not sure how that would all work with the valves, (you can get by with 2 for the rear), but a simple 3 gallon or 5 gallon tank is pretty cheap, roughly $75 or so.

Re: budget rear bags

i dont have a way to post pics right now. i already have the compressors and gauges, lines, a complete kit. it is in cab controll set-up. when we use it as a helper setup it works fine just slow to pump up. fully pumped i get about 3 inchs of travel. i wont be using it often, just to haul extra wieght. my concern is will my bags work without any springs? if i post the firestone part numbers would somebody know enough about Firestone to help me? thanks pkj

Re: budget rear bags

ive done it before. i dont have pics, but you may have to use a 1/4 inch adapter fitting to get it to the size you want. i was running an onboard compressor with no tank(i had a 80/120(monitored line and bag pressure) pressure switch with a toggle switch for the pump). i used these similar bags with manual valves which controlled front, back and front/rear drop. i used 4 ball valves in all and all automotive 1/4 inch hose with some T's and manifolds. it cost about 300 bucks when i was done. i got the bags from different local junkyards. i still have them and will probably put them on my 81 el camino.

Re: budget rear bags

thanks 69face. i have everything i need to set-up. main question was would these bags work as suspension not just helpers? they come with universal brackets. i think i will use them but weld them in place instead of all the cheesy u-bolts. what do you think? thanks, pkj
