wiring issue
i have a cs130 alternator on my 454, almost new.. i hooked up the wiring as i read in a few articles.. it was a 4 wire alternator and i "converted" it to a 2 wire alternator.. one wire goes to the battery and the other wire goes through a resistor and then into my fuse block which its on a switched ignition hot. The other 2 wires are capped off. After hooking it up i ran the truck on and off for a total of about 45 miles, great no problems. The other night i started it up and showed no volts on the gauge. I tested the alt. with a volt meter and had no power coming of the recharge terminal..Now im sorda baffeld because I re-wired the whole engine. Havent got to the cab wiring yet but i dont think that should make a difference with the charging system.. any help?? anybody experienced this??

Re: wiring issue
And just how did you "converted" it to a 2 wire? You do know that the 'S' terminal is the voltage sensing wire that controls the alt output?

Re: wiring issue
Here, read this article and check it against your wiring and then check the resister in the brown wire,it might be blown. You need a 3 watt or bigger resister .IIRC.

Re: wiring issue
well yes i do know the S wire is the sensing wire, i have the S wire jumped to the batt recharge terminal on the alt., the F wire is not connected, the L wire i have going to a resistor and then a switched hot, the P wire is not connected. I then have the batt recharge term. connected to positive side of batt.

Re: wiring issue
so everyone else is as baffled as me?? i searched for the few hours i had today, for maybe a bare wire or something.. i bought a new battery.. i bought a new resistor.. still nothing, even though i kno the battery wouldnt change anything but i needed one anyway. i did notice when i put my blinker on and off, the volt gauge kinda jumps but only the littlest bit. i have nooo clue i wired it exactly how the tech forum says. i searched on pirate4x4, ck5, chevelle.com, camaro.net, gained all the info and its wired properly. The alt. is only 4,000 miles old, its a mean green.. im going to get it bench tested tomorrow.. maybe fluke deal it got burnt up or something huh?
