Re: How Much Have You Spent

Way too much and I'm about to spend a lot more.

I bought the truck for $6000 (Canadian) and put about $1500 to get it in good running order.

Over the first winter, I put about $15,000 into a 73-87 front disc and power brake suspension, rear axle flip, a new 3:73 posi, new 5 bolt axles, new radiator, vintage air and a little bling in the engine compartment.

Now, I have started a complete teardown to powder coat the frame and start a full build up including front and rear air bags, new header and exhaust and a complete restoration on the body. Including paint, I'm thinking I will be spending another $15-20K. What the heck is wrong with me .

Re: How Much Have You Spent

3 grand for the 72 cheyenne, so far about 10k in parts, probably another 10k for a motor and paint supplies, luckily the paint and bodywork labor is done by a close friend of mine at no charge. when (if) it's done, it'll have almost every factory option except cruise control (4 speed tilt, tach,vacuum,speedwarning,am/fm,buckets,shoulder belts,a-c,p-s,p-b, posi front & rear, tow hooks, bumper guards, toolbox, auxillary fuel tank, rear sport bumper, cargo tie downs, bed rails, door edge guards, rear tow hooks, lighted cigarette lighter, tissue dispenser, ( i know, some of these are dealer installed options) every time i look at my "stash" of parts--most are NOS-i cringe at how much i'll have invested in a truck that'll be worth half the money i put into it.
the sentimental value is priceless-my uncle bought the truck brand new in '72 and we recently found out he has cancer in his spine and lungs so his time here is probably limited. i hope to finish it while he is still here so he can see his old truck again.

Re: How Much Have You Spent

The frame is done with ECE 4-6 drop, painted and every nut and bolt replaced. No paint on body, engine is not rebuilt, 400 turbo is rebuilt, already have $4900.00 in this truck with no end in sight.

Re: How Much Have You Spent

About 10,,000 so far. 3500 for the truck--4000 for the sand blast and paint inside and out and another 1500 in misc parts. Oh yea, another 1000 in tires/rims. Still considering a nv4500 swap, the inside cab is still gutted and the AC is still not blowing..

I am with Pete6960 and would rather not state. I am into the engine and every thing in the engine compartment about the cost of a new truck. My paint was not as much as Petes but close. Things add up fast anymore.

Twice as much as I planned on, and not half as much as I need too.

Re: How Much Have You Spent

1.) $7400.00 for the truck
2.) $1800.00 for the wheels
3.) $0.00 for the tires ( my dad ordered too big of a back tire for his car and couldn't find the size he needed to match in the same brand, so he had to buy another set. bad for him good for me!)
4.) $600.00 for the lowering kit
5.) $500.00 for a 400 small block which i'm going to have rebuilt
6.) $375.00 for the cowl hood
7.) $425.00 misc. motor parts
8.) $300.00 to have it lowered and a small c-notch
9.) $200.00 for the power steering box, brackets & trans. crossmember
10.)$0.00 for a good th350 w/2800 converter ( dad decided to go with a 700r4. another score!)
11.)$1900.00 for wheels on my wife's car ( to keep her happy, so i'm happy)

So right now i'm sitting at $13,500 and i'll probably spend another $5000.00 or so on the motor and painting supplies.

Re: How Much Have You Spent

I kept up with what I spent on mine until I reached about 8k and still had a long way to go, then I decided that I was going to finish it the way I wanted no matter what the cost. It's taken a while to save up enough $$$, and find the parts, but I finally have almost everything that I need, and will have what I've always wanted when I'm done.

Re: How Much Have You Spent

So far I've got about $8000 in my '71 GMC. After lowering it, I purchased a Ramjet 350 and a Hughes 700r4 ($7000 for the engine and tranny). Since then all I've done is make credit card payments. Hate to charge more until I get the balance down. I use to think $15000 would do it but we all know better than that. I have convinced myself that it will be a daily driver and should see 10,000 mile a year. It's still cheaper than buying a new pickup, which I haven't done in 11 years. I'd rather drive something a little more unique than what everyone else is driving (buying new). Besides there's nothing like cruising down the interstate in a vintage pickup, 80 mph with the cruise and a/c on.

Re: How Much Have You Spent

I paid 5000.00 for mine, drove it eight years with only the cost of a water pump(68.00) and now I have it off the frame, so far i have primed the frame, rebuilt rearend and frontend(4x4), new brakes, brake lines, gas lines(309.00) and a used grill(125.00). so far 5502.00 not bad "yet" lol

but as KCW said the people I have met along the way "Priceless"

Re: How Much Have You Spent

About $ 7500 so far to get her to the "fun, safe, drive it when & where you want" stage.

Would have been some less $$$ if I had ebayed stuff from member "Lamar" sooner (& found this GREAT board quicker).

Still needs interior & install the van tilt, rear Blazer tank, eventually some Vintage Air & Painless wires, so I'm at least a couple-three more thousand away.

But who's counting when it's this much fun ..........

I crested $11k (includes $4500 truck) a couple weeks back and it's still spread out over three garages, a spare bedroom and part of the driveway. Oh, and it's not even rolling at this point!

Got a lot of pretty parts waiting to go on though

Re: How Much Have You Spent

Wow, well I'm glad to see that I'm not by myself on this. I was lmao at whoever it was that said their kids wasn't going to college, I guess it struck me funny cause I was thinking the exact same thing.

I thought in the begining when I bought my truck that I was going to save a ton of money by doing everything myself, yeah right. Although I'm sure I might save some over the whole process its still gonna be more than I had figured on. It doesn't really matter cause when I'm through I'll have the satisfaction of saying, yep thats right I built her from the ground up.
