Moving from MS to TX Wed & Thurs
Well folks be praying for me. My family and I are moving 900 miles due west to where I grew up near Lubbock, Texas. Unfortunately, Old Yeller is still a basket case. I've had him all torn down in the body shop for a year trying to get him painted but to no avail. Fortunately, I have a friend lined up in Sherman who can do it so I'll drop him off on my way through and hopefully get this job done. But I still have to haul him 600 miles to get there.
I wish I could have met all the guys who live here in MS before I left but it's not the end of the world, obviously, since we'll all continue on the forum as before.

Be safe on your trip, make sure you have contact info to get in touch with one of the mods if ya break down. That way they can relay the request for help to the board. Hopefully ya won't need it but never know.

Re: Moving from MS to TX Wed & Thurs
Thanks to all. We are hoping to get started by lunch tomorrow. Since I live just 10 mi from AL, we won't make it further then Texarkana and may even stop for the night between there and Little Rock.
Thursday it's on to Sherman, where I'll drop off Old Yeller at my friend's body shop and then we'll continue on Hwy 82 all the way to my hometown of Crosbyton which is 35 mi east of Lubbock. I also found out today that U-Haul doesn't make a car hauler long enough to carry a full size truck. The dolly I rented also isn't supposed to be rented out to anyone with something larger than a mini-truck but, Oh well. You do what you have to do. Both my father and father-in-law are here to help pack and haul everything. It's a good thing my father-in-law is a chiropractor. After packing the trailer all day today, that adjustment felt good tonight!

Re: Moving from MS to TX Wed & Thurs
We just hauled both a 1956 four door and a 1967 stepside truck [at different times of course] on one of the U-haul trailers with great success. I just tell 'em I am towing a Camaro or Nova depending on the time of day I call .
I'd have been a little more careful with a longbed, but I've seen it done twice in the past. Those U-haul trailers are great for car hauling, kinda wish I had one for my own. They are more heavy duty than most 16' car haulers.

Re: Moving from MS to TX Wed & Thurs
I hauled mt LWB 1971 from Atlanta to Knoxville then to Houston ona U-Haul trailer. Had about 2 to 3 feer hangin off the back, but it didn't block the lights on the trailer any.

Re: Moving from MS to TX Wed & Thurs
Welcome back to Texas and better yet to Lubbock. I was born and raised here. At least you should not have any problems finding parts or even whole trucks around here, I just bought 6 trucks last week!

Re: Moving from MS to TX Wed & Thurs
Would you believe it's raining this morning. It shouldn't be that big a deal. It's supposed to clear off by 9:00 and we aren't planing to leave till noon. It'll slow down the final loading but we should get under way on time.
BTW, U-haul thinks I'm pulling an S-10.

Re: Moving from MS to TX Wed & Thurs
We just had a big cell passing through that dumped a bunch of rain. Loud one too, thunder & lightning everywhere...gone in less than 20 minutes.

Re: Moving from MS to TX Wed & Thurs
Whew, what a day. It rained all morning up until we left at 2:00 this afternoon. I nearly got stuck trying to pull Old Yeller up the hill out of my shop but we made it. Then in Memphis because the car dolly is too narrow, the truck slipped to one side and we had to jack it up and push it over, blah, blah, blah, blah to make it sit right without tearing up the dolly's fenders.
We made it to Little Rock tonight. I'm completly beat. Looking forward to the end of this trip tomorrow.
