Post New Goodwrench Quest "Twister"

Chevy High Performance magazine is starting a new Goodwrench Quest series using a HT 383 crate motor this time. If any of you recall the very popular original series based upon the 350 crate where they developed 408 hp at 5,800 rpm and 430 ft-lb at 3,700 rpm spending around $2000! This new series is called The Twister and should be very interesting. It started in the June issue where they describe the new HT 383 as a "gem-in-a-crate...designed as a torquey small block for heavier steet cars and trucks..."

400 small block with the Weiand Tower of Power looking for a home!

The engine comes with manifold, valve covers, dip stick and water pump...just add carb, dizzy and pulleys. All for $3895 plus shipping. This motor comes stock with the Vortec heads and manifold.

The test results for this first stage of mods included a 650 Holley, 1 5/8 in. Hedman headers, 1.6 roller rockers, and 2 1/2 in. DynoMax Super Turbo's. Results were 341 hp @ 4700 and 447 ft-lb @ 3,100. Darn impressive.

I personally think that thats a little to high in the rpm range.....it would be nice if they could get that HP reading to come below 4,000 rpms and the tork to come down below 3,000 rpms........ Oh well thats why I like my Big Blocks!
