Frost on body question
Ok here in northern CA we have been down to the low 20's.. Yes I know some of you laugh at lows 20's as being cold. For years now when it freezes all the cars/trucks/roofs/grass/everything turns white from frost/ice. But my truck does not. NEVER! It is dry to the touch all the way around and on top. It sits right next to the car under no shade, trees, roofs, tarp canopy etc.. The car will be white with ice and require me to scrap the windows clean in order to drive. The truck is dry. Windows are clear and not even wet from moisture. The body is cold to the touch but still dry.
Maybe someone could explain this??

I might be completely wrong here....but do you/how often do you wax your truck? My neighbors 90SS454 was like that, when I asked him about it. He said he puts a few coats of wax on it. It makes the snow "bead" off before it has a chance to build up or freeze. Said it was a secret he learned in the Marines. |

Re: Frost on body question
Are you using something like RainX on the windows ? Had to scrape windows up here again today - if there is a cure I would like to know too.....

Re: Frost on body question
Yes my son?
I do use rainX on windows and it does an execllent job of keeping the ice off the windows or so little that just turning the windshield wipers wipes it off. Before I parked the truck about 6 or so months ago I had been regularly waxing it about every 2 weeks. So that does make sence. Thanks

Seriously, a good coat of wax and an application of Rainx goes a long way when the temps dip below 32. What color is the truck that doesn't frost up? Black? Dark colored? Are you seeing this after the sun is up? That old haymaker will still get dark surfaces pretty warm even when the temp is cold. Late one night I got back to MSP right after a real bad ice storm. The runways and roads were all taken care of but my car that I left outside looked like an ice cube. The shuttle bus driver offered to help me clean off my windows so I could drive home. Once I got in the car to get my scraper out and start on the windows the shuttle guy said he never saw anything like it. The ice just popped off the rainx-ed windows. He said off all the cars he helped with that night he couldn't believe how easy I had it.

Re: Frost on body question
My trucks do the same thing. My guess is that my 06 truck has an airtight seal and will stay warmer inside than my 72. It has old weatherstripping and will let air in and the inside temp is the same as the outside temp. The new truck will get condensation on it which will then turn to frost.

Re: Frost on body question
Thanks for the rain-x tip, guys. I run the Rain-x Windshield washer antifreeze in the wife's car, but with a broken washer bottle in the truck, I just scrape the window while the truck warms up. I'm gonna go find a bottle and treat all my glass today!
