oil pan Question
I have a cracked oil pan and am prob losing a half a quart a day just sitting i know almost for a fact that i cant drop the oil pan out with out lifting the engine unless you guys have done it for now i am just going to jbweld it and hope it will hold untell i can get to my dad shop back home.
I just want to know if it is at all posibal to take the oil pan out with out taking the engine out or at least lifting it out thanks

if it is a small block you can take the pan off without removing the motor. Just undo the motor mounts and jack up the motor to get clearance over the crossmember. You can get another oil pan (they are relatively cheap). Or you can braize the split on your old oil pan

I pulled the oil pan on mine without lifting the engine. Ive always heard you have to unless mine is different some how.

I have a stock '80 350 that's exposed now that the transmission is out of the truck. Doesn't look like I'll have to jack anything up. I've got at least a 2-3 " inch clearance to drop the pan to put a new gasket in.

From what i have seen on the 67-72s, a V8 in factory position needs the front of the eng lifted to get the pan out(with the trans in place). On a V8 mounted in 6/250 position, the pan will come out with the eng & trans in place (just need to remove the starter & dust cover). .......crazy AL

I found out the hard way that I was unable to drop my pan in the old C/20 Longhorn.
