700r4 questions

im looking into getting a 700r4 off of a friend but one of the bolt locations is broke meaning that only 5 of the 6 bolts could mount. would the tv cable and the coolant lines from the th350 cross over?

The TH350 dont have a TV cable, and the cooler line fitting should be the same. Might have to do a little bending though to get them to the right area.

The 350 uses a kickdown cable but has a different end where it attaches to the tranny. There is an adapter available to make it work on the 700. Cooler lines will work.

with a 700r4, you will have to install a kit to retain 4th gear lockup, as that was controlled electronically. I prefer to use the kit from TCI (p/n 376600), it's really easy to install, and allows you to install a switch to disable lockup (like the towing feature on most new trucks) and also to lockup the tranny manually in any gear.

And as for adjusting the TV cable, the only way to do it in a nonstock aplication is with the bowtie overdrive (www.bowtieoverdrive.com) kit. Read what they have on there site, and decide for your self if it is woirth your time and money. The adjustment is VERY important.

I certainly wouldn't worry about it, five bolts will hold it together just fine. It's a good idea to look into those tvmadeez setups from Bowtie Overdrives like Longhorn said.

I ran a th-350 in my 81 silverado (daily driver) for two years with only 4 bolts in the tranny (lost a couple when i swapped my motor and was too lazy to replace them), until i swapped in the 700r4.

I never had a problem.

I've pulled trannies only to find 3 bolts holding them in.

Now, if you are missing a dowel... then you have problems.
Just put lock tight on the remaining bolts if it helps you sleep.

just remember like Andy said. the TV adjustment is EXTREMELY critical. being off even a slight amount will result in destruction. not enough line pressure and the clutches burn up. too much and you will have a scrap metal fit.
I suggest towing it to a tranny shop for this. money well spent.
