Sweeeeet! I'm getting ready to rebuild a 400 I've got sitting in the corner of my shop. No way I can even get close to the deal you got. Early Christmas gift. Great score.

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
Check and see if there are steam holes drilled in those heads. If he ran it without them you might have some problems.

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
No. You would have to pull the heads. Without the steam holes the motor WILL overheat. Especially since his auction says AS IS and he stated he ran it for 30 minutes before pulling.

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
It most likely would over-heat during everyday street use but would survive track use. There's many a racer out there w/o steam holes drilled. For $99 bucks, it's still a deal if everything else is trash..... if the heads are Vortecs.

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
another question how many freeze plugs does it have all together? some had 3 on each side of the block and they are the most common while some had 2 on each side as any other small block

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
hey mark,
if all else fails i'll take it off your hands =). you could allways take the crank put it in a 350 and make a 383 stroker. actuly if your going to do anything but run it stock getting an internaly balanced stroker assembly for the 400 would be a good idea then you can resell the crank and make up a few bucks. either way kudos on your score. ondrew does it come with an intake too? i need one. |
