72 gmc 8-slugger
Hey guys,
wanted to know if any of you have had the dana-60 limited slip, in you rides? got that in my 3/4 ton, when I took the brake drums in (freaking huge!) napa told me they where 1ton brake drums??? what I really want to know is if your trucks are dogs like mine? I dont know what gear is in the slug, but my 350/350 just cant move this thing. This is my first dana-60, so I guess maybe they're all like this??? does the d-60 produce huge drag? Anyway, might be upgrading to a big block, cause this is my work horse, and I need it to be able to move.

The most important thing would be to find out what the ratio is, I have seen as high as 3:50, if you have tall tires there will be not much take off power. Unless there is a mechanical problem with the axle assembly, there is no more substantial drag than any other rear end.

sounds like your NAPA guy is a tool... onless your rear has been transplanted, then it isn't one ton brakes.
Leaf or coil springs? |

I have the same rear, but I thought the drums are 3/4 and 1 ton. Meaning, they're the same for 3/4 and 1 ton. Maybe that's what the NAPA guy meant. I have a tired 350, granny 4spd in mine, but it's not that slow. Definitely a 4.11 or 4.56...probably 4.11. I read before in 3/4 and 1 tons, you couldn't get anything numerically lower than a 4.11. At least up through 72. That always seemed to be the case in junkyard examples, but I'm not positive.

big blocks had a 3.54, but otherwise, 4.10 was it.
The drums are not the same one ton to 3/4 ton. The brakes are the main thing that makes a one ton axle, a one ton. I am not sure on the Dana, but the other rear, the Corporate rear with eaton Diff, the HO52 and HO72 are the same, except for spring mounting pads, and brakes. |

Great to know, thanks. The book I have says a 4.57 was available and I have seen a junkyard example with the SPID saying Rear Axle Ratio 4.57.
