electric fans

i just wanted to express how much i like the set of fans my buddy pulled from a crusher prototype bmw. i used the wiring circuit that vtblazer described a while back with a ballast resistor from an old points ign for the low speed setting and 2 relays. i sat in beverly hills traffic this last summer for a month or so at a crawl (25 miles in 90 minutes) approx. on some very hot days and it never moved from the thermostat regulated position unless i forgot to turn it on. as soon as i hit the toggle with the engine almost boiling over the needle drops immediately. if you have the chance i recommend a good set of electric fans. they save a lot of gas and my blazer is snappy. i have embarrassed many of the guys that prefer paying finance charges as opposed to building thier own toys. that truck surprises me most of the time

glad it's working well for you, mine works equally as well when wheeling at slow speeds on hot days.

He's telling ya electric fans are the way to go.

Ok so what do I have to do to COrrect the problem because i have a local guy telling me that is the way i should do it But I want the temperature switch to turn it on and off.

I dont want my fans to run all the time only when it gets to a certain temp and the thermo switch turns them on.

Couple ways to achieve this.

1 - feed the t-sat switch constant/fused battery power, then through the switch feed the fans.
This will allow it to act on it's own, depending on the t-stat temp range.

2 - feed 'key' power to it the exact same way.
Key power is 'power only' to the switch when the key is in the 'run' position.

You DO NOT want your fans to run ALL the time, it's not necessary and it will severely shorten the life of all components involved, i.e. the electric fans.

Thanks Guys! I found the Problem..... I had everything wired correctly the only thing that was wrong was the thermo temp switch that bolts to the intake was Bad so fan would run at all time... Now I changed it they only turn on when the truck hits that temp. Now I only have to worry about my new headlight harness and my dakota digital dash.

does anyone know if theres a way to use the temp signal from an o.e. temp sender to control the electric fans? there must be an adjustable switch that can be dialed in.

For anyone that does not know the dual fan setup from ls1 model camaro or firechicken fits our radiators nearly perfect and they are cheap when buying used.
