Question for shaved external antennae....
What internal antenna do you guys use when you shave the external mast antenna? I want to do this to ALL my vehicles. I've seen one from AutoLok and a couple other places, that go either in your headliner (not on these trucks though lol) or they stick to the windshield right above the rearview, looks like a small box with a couple small antenna rods sticking out both sides.
I have to try one in my Honda since I shaved the roof mounted antenna when I added in my sunroof, but I wanted to know what you guys have used and gets good reception like the stock mast????

Re: Question for shaved external antennae....
I know you said internal. But this is a cool idea. My friend has a 69. They removed the cab gas tank and put one under the back. Anyways, instead of filling and smoothing the old gas filler neck hole. The used the hole and frenched in a power antenna. Looks cool and it's out of site when radio is off.
I would get pics, but it is just alittle far for me to go get them. |

Re: Question for shaved external antennae....
I had seen some pics of one done that way but didnt like it. I hate stuff on the body, clean, smooth, uncluttered is what I like. I do, however, like the stock chrome handles. But most everything else can go lol.

Re: Question for shaved external antennae....
I bought this one from Advanced Auto for about $20. I mounted it above the mirror on the windshield. The reception is as good or better than my S10 though probably not as good as my Impala. The directions said not to mount it underneath anything, so I don't know how it would do under the dash or headliner.

Re: Question for shaved external antennae....
FWIW my wife's Freestar has the antenna in the side window. it looks like a defroster grid. does anyone make a retrofit grid?

Re: Question for shaved external antennae....
Next question: Who wants to sell me a cowl panel that doens't have an antenna provision for a 67-78 C10? I had somoene on here with two of them that was gonna sell me one, but they flaked out I guess (haven't heard back in eons!)
I bet someone out there makes a repop. Would be cool to find a fully shaved repop (no slit vents in the cowl).

Re: Question for shaved external antennae....
Speaking of a cowl , Does anybody know of one that is a repop, but does not have the louvers. That would save alot of time fot the guys wanting a smooth cowl.

Wouldnt it be cheaper to just weld in a quick patch panel there? super super easy work. The vent louvers, meh, would take some time though. If all you wanted was the antenna hole gone I'd just weld it up instead of buying a whole other cowl.

Re: Question for shaved external antennae....
I paid $10 for my "no hole" cowl... trying to figure out the antenna dilemma now.

I don't want any welding work, I'd rather have the factory one that came pre-done than something hacked. Don't ask me why I want to stick NOS...bottom line, it's just easier for me. I'll trade you one with a hole in it for one without the hole in it I have a friend coming up to PA for the holidays that owes me a favor and could handle the swap, I bet. As long as yours is for a '67-'68 it should work out fine
