15"s on a 3/4 ton?

anyone know if 15" wheels can be put on a 71 3/4 ton? it has a HD D44 and eaton HO52. i found a set of nice used 60% tread 33/12.5/15 boggers

Depending how much back space the wheel is. I put a set of 8s with 4.25" b/s on my sub when I had 3/4 tons in it, had to grind on the front, but not too bad. Less b/s, less grindage....

i was afraid of that i was looking at it and there didnt seem to be much space between the caliper and the wheel. i kind of like the stance of it now too (285/75/16s on 16x7 'spokes), so i dont really want to go with alot more backspacing

you wouldnt happen to have any pics of what you had to do or possably still have the wheels would you?

thanks mike- ive been working on it since nov. 2001. it did have a 327 in it, but once i found out it was just a 327 it wound up in the blue 71. theres a TBI 350 sitting on the stand for it, waiting for me to get off my butt and put it together

b454-- what size tires are those? they look really good on there i think. would you be interested in getting rid of the wheels?

They were some seriously whooped 33s. I had them on my 97 for awhile, did some nice smoky burnouts, then blew two tires flat towing a truck that I bought that had a locked up wheel. I'm hanging on to them right now, looking for some 38x12.5s to run on my truck for the winter. I'll drop you a PM if things change. Summit has them new for little over $30 IIRC. I paid $27 each couple years ago, gone up some though. Go figure.

i have 15 on my 72 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive you need to grind the caliper you will see were they rub if you stick it on the rotor and turn it and a back spacer they will not change the stance all that much i didnt even notice it on mine

I ran 15” wheels on my ’78 K10 from when I was in college until just 6 years ago because the wheels were cheap and the 33” tires were free and I had a fresh new set of ¾ axles that needed 8 lug wheels. The wheels are now actually on my ’72 beater C20 and the ’78 got a set of 16’s with Q78 Swampers.

The rear wheels fit fine on both trucks but the fronts needed minor grinding on the calipers and backing plates on both the 78 4x4 and the 72 2wd. Nothing too major but make sure you grind enough off the caliper to make room for brake pad wear as the caliper move in the slides.

I would not recommend 15’s on a ¾ ton but if the price is right we are all easy.

The first pic is my '78 K10 back in 1998 at a park in the northern suburbs of Detroit wearing the cheesy 15” wheels after a fresh layer of paint. The second picture is my 'C20 wearing the same hand me down 15" wheels 2 years ago when I was landscaping my house in Colorado. Hey, the 15’s on the 72 were better than dealing with the original 16’ split rims.
