Torque mount

I changed the transfer case bushings today and realized the PO put the wrong cross member on the truck. The truck was originally a 6 cylinder with a three speed but has been converted to a 350/350 and is missing the torque mount on the transfer case. What kind of problems can I expect from missing the mount? Does anyone have one they will sell cheap? Bushings are not important because I will put poly in anyway.

Re: Torque mount

since there are no mounts on the t-case-the mount is on the adapter between the trans and t-case-you can snap the back off the trans or crack the adapter if you get rough with it.

Re: Torque mount

Can you post some pictures?

My understanding is that not all the t-cases came with the torque mount from my understanding. They added it to the 205 several years after first production (not sure when) and on the NP203 they added the brace that runs from the side of the t-case to the back of the tranny housing. I think you should be ok unless you have a high hp engine or do some major off-roading.

Re: Torque mount

I definately won't be doing any major off roading but I don't want anything to break regardless. As for the horsepower, it's a crate 350, nothing special. When I was under it yesterday I didn't see any stress cracks or anything like that but I thought if a mount was supposed to be there I should put one on. It looks as if the mount used to attach from the side of the t-case to the frame. Does anyone have a picture of their's so maybe I can have one fabricated if I can't find a used one.

Re: Torque mount

As for pictures of what I've got I will have to get them this weekend. The truck is in my mother's garage 40 miles away.
