Re: Impala SS/Caprice rear disc brake BRACKETS

I am wondering if anything can be done for us 6 lug guys.. I was thinking Envoy rear discs and a caliper that would work...I have seen burb and tahoe setups but I need something to fit 15" rims. Calipers for Envoys aren't cheap though. If you venture down that lane let me know..

Re: Impala SS/Caprice rear disc brake BRACKETS

My understanding of the braking system is this, proportioning valves determine the rate at which brake pressure is applied to the front and rear brakes (pressure to the front first and the rear). Residual valves determine the amount of static pressure that is on the brake shoe or the brake caliper pad. Shoes require a 10 lb residual valve and disc only require a 2 lb residual valve. Older master cylinders had the residual valve built into them. Thats why you would need to get a drum/drum, disc/drum or disc/disc depending on your application. I think some newer proportioning valves may have both functions built in. Long story short, you need to know what YOUR master cylinder and proportioning valve was designed to do. Here's some good info on braking systems design.

Re: Impala SS/Caprice rear disc brake BRACKETS

The caprice/impala ss rotors are a 5x5 bolt pattern, the same as 71-72 trucks. From previous posts, they supposedly slide right on, no problem.

Re: Impala SS/Caprice rear disc brake BRACKETS

The impala rotors are a perfect fit, but do not buy the cheap ones from Advance autoparts. The two I bought are both warped too bad to use.

Bob, received the brackets yesterday. They are some heavy duty pieces! I'll be keeping an eye open for the brake line adapters.
