4L80-E Trans Options

Discussion on another thread is making me wonder if vendors have come up with a reasonable solution to using a 4L80-E Trans in a non computer controlled towing or H/D vehicle?

Unreasonable options that I currently know of include:
  • Using a TH400 instead (doesn't offer overdrive or lock-up converter)
  • Add a Gear Vendors Overdrive to a TH400 (too expensive and you still don't get a lock-up converter)
  • Installing a full manual valve body in it. (defeats the purpose of "automatic". Nice when you want it but gets tiresome after the 1st 15 minutes of driving)
  • Buying an aftermarket electronic controller (Too expensive. Think they run $500 to $1300. Might as well pay to have a TH700 beefed up)
Any better ones out there?
