Any other Air Force C10s on here?

My truck came originally with Air Force stickers, no radio, completely bare bones truck.

Any others on here with that RPO option?

Here is it as of today:

Re: Any other Air Force C10s on here?

No, but my '68 C/10 Stepside was originally the POV [personally owned vehicle] of the Catholic Chaplain to MCB Camp Pendleton, Calif. He was a Navy Captain, which is the same level as a Marine (full) Colonel and (because no one bothered to scrape the rank sticker off the front bumper) I used to have fun getting saluted even as a PFC when driving on base at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. Until some MP asked after "my father the Col" and I had to admit it was just a used truck -- at which point the razor blade came out and my truck got demoted.
The base motor pool (in 1974) had about 6 or 8 Chevy 1/2 ton stepsides [one was a GMC], mostly with 250 L6s and 3-on-the -tree Saginaw manual xmsns. I had to get checked out on one to get my military drivers license, and the corporal who was doing the check ride yelled at me for hotrodding his truck. [I was only driving it like it was my rig.] I thought the 250 was underpowered. The Marine Corps trucks were either painted light gray or Marine green. One or 2 had shells built onto the back so the MPs could haul prisoners back from the civilian drunk tanks to the on-base brig. They were called "Black Marias".

Re: Any other Air Force C10s on here?

I have a 1974 c/10 short fleet that started out life as a Navy truck. It is your basic stripped down model in gray. It is still a I-6 but somewhere along the line has been changed over to an automatic/floor shift and a radio/CD player in the dash. It has manual steering but has power disk brakes. The metal information plates are still pop riveted to the dash and the chain is still attached to the gas cap. I still am undecided on what I want to do with it but do drive it every now and then.

I had a 57 chevy car that was Navy. Couldn't have been more bare bones. It had a brass plaque on the dash with all pertinent Navy vehicle I.D. stuff on it. Thats all I have left of it.

Yeah, mine was an air force baby blue 69. It still wears the original paint and was a radio delete truck with a 4:11 posi and 292 6!!

I had several vans I got from DRMO years back, but never a truck. Wish I could have found one that way.

Mine is the exact same! Had a baby blue exterior and dark blue interior. It also came with the 6-cylinder and has 4:11s in there. Also has heavy duty springs and spare tire delete.

I didn't know 4.11s were available. I don't think it has a posi though, or if it does, the posi is shot.

Is there an RPO for the rear end and posi? And I'm guessing you don't still have the Air Force decals on there?

My 56 is a former Army truck, can still faintly see "For Official Use Only" on doors, data plate is screwed to glove box door.

Re: Any other Air Force C10s on here?

Mine sawa GSA, Posi and 4:11 I can get the RPO #'s, but it was an airforce one as pointed out by qksilver. As far as I can tell the baby blue is it, no others lurking under that. Maybe your's wan an ODgreen truck and turned blue later in life? My K5 was an AZ game and fish truck, has the property tag still on it! Didn't mean to collect old gov property, just kinda happened!

My 72 sbss is a former army pickup. Still says air pressure is 30 lbs on the glovebox, with some cool options. No posi though, but it has a 350 auto.

Re: Any other Air Force C10s on here?

My K5 started life service the US Immigration Service as a border patrol vehicle near El Paso, TX. Dealer-installed auxiliary fuel tanks (all that is left is the valve installed in the floor), government-installed bumper-jacks in the back to keep the hatch closed when it was bounding over hill and dale chasing mexican illegals.

Pale green with chrome bumpers, side moldings, 307 V8, all 3 seats, and the hard top.

Re: Any other Air Force C10s on here?

My truck is also an air force truck. It is a 1969 stepside, bare bones, light blue with dark interior. My truck still has the original 350 and turbo 400 tranny. The decals and stickers are still in the cab, and the tail gate has the army veicle number on it.

Funny, I was just looking at some photos of Johnston Island where I was stationed while in the Army. Some of the pics were from the 70's and one had a nice looking step-side in it (sorry for the huge pic).

Re: Any other Air Force C10s on here?

I forgot to mention I found this 6" x 12" license plate made from 6061-T6 aluminum in the khaki mud of an alley just south of Davis Monthan while working [grips] on location for "Terminal Velocity" at an aircraft recyclers. The deep blue paint is flaking off leaving shiny metal underneath but it's still stencilled clearly:

TAC
DMAFB

in 1-1/2" yellow letters.
Not for sale of course.

Re: Any other Air Force C10s on here?

Numberonesone (72afr member here) has a 72 ss that was an army truck commishioned to Leavonworth, KA. It was green, radio delete, 350 V8, 350 turbo, power brakes, no power steering.

Still has the metal tags mounted to the glove box, showing the warranty time and mileage and axle weight capacities. I think there is some paper work from the military in the glove box as well.

I can post a pick later if anyone is interested in those plates.

Re: Any other Air Force C10s on here?

I have a strange one myself!

This is my 69 C10 short stepside. There is no paint code and from what I can tell, it was originally an olive green.

Wanna see some weird codes? I typed them out as my camera doesn't pick up the words. Any spaces are characters that I cannot read:

Model CS10704
4G50AA H.D. rear spring
4V38AA Painted rear bumper
9632AB Radio suppression
9640AA 0
9868AA Cigarette lighter
9904_E 0
9905_K 0
9908AD 0
9909PD 0
9912BM
9958QA 0

-----

4AM3CC Front center seat belt
4MO1BA Heavy duty clutch
4612BA Green vinyl trim
9638AA Permanent antifreeze
9745AA Magnetic drain plug
9886AA Rear view mirror
990_KB 0
9907AB Tag unit
9909OA
9910AD Label uni
9914AA Consignee ____ution F

Anyone care to take a crack at some of these?

BTW, my glove door has 4 small holes drilled in it from what I think was probably some metal tags.

Anyone have pics of what these tags might have looked like? They were gone when I got the truck.
