a basic step notch kit for the 67-72 c 10s im on a budget as far as this build is concerned and the money that kp wants for the notch is to much at this point int time for example this is from suicide doors http://*****************/8-pcStepNotchKit.php
i know that it will need to be worked into place but im wondering if anyone else has done this and do you have any pictures of the install or does anyone have any other ideas for me the welding and cutting and whatever else that is involved is no problem just want to keep the cost down thanks guys

Won't work without major mods. The reason is the 67-72 frame rails turn back towards the centerline of the chassis where the C notch goes. The c-notch in your link is for straight rail frames.

is anyone besides kp making a notch for the 67-72 200 for steel with a couple breaks in it is toooooo much at this point

it can be done, ive done it once, in hindsight i wouldve built one from scratch, itd be easier. for the extra 100 bucks youd save yourself alot of trouble and frustration with the kp notch....just my .02

is it true that kp will cut the notch deeper if needed damn it ive looked all over today and i either need to fab one from 2x3 box tube or break down and spend the cash on the kp which i think that im going to need to do

I just finished a frame notch on my 1971 Camper Special today. It's not one for the 1st timer. The bend in the frame makes a bit tricky. It's best to do it with the bed off. I started with a piece of flat bar 3/16 x 6 inch, cut it to 10 inches in length. Measure 3 inches in on each end. That should leave a 4 inch section in the center. Then bend at the 3 inch line 45 Degrese. This should give you the notch part of the install. Lay this on the top of the frame rail and line it up with the center line of the axel. You can see why you need a 6 inch piece. Using this notch piece mark the side of the frame where you will install the notch. (measure twice cut once) I like to use a plasma cutter to make the notch cut. Don't forget to pull the electrical outa the way. With the notch cut out of the frame, clean it up insert the notch piece in the frame (square it and level it) and weld into place. With that done make your self a pattern to box the inside of the frame around the notch. I try to get at least 3 inches on each side of the notch and that will be plenty strong. Oh, did say do only one side at a time. You don't want to warp the frame. Good luck

Another option is to do a backhalf, but you will end up having to raise the bed floor. There is another option, which is what I did. I cut the rear cross member and moved the frame rails out to match the rails in front of the notch. I basically made the frame wider behind the rear axle. This way you can use a generic notch kit and not have to deal with bending it to fit the rails.

I used a regular one on my blazer. It took lots of cutting and bending.. by the time I was finished I wished I would have bought the KP notch.
