69 GMC original tire size

Hello all

I am interested to know what the original tire size would have been on my 69 GMC.

I am looking to make a basic driver out of it and am thinking about what tire size to use.

To help with the decision please post any pictures of your truck you may have with with tires around P235/75R15. Also if you could say what size they are and what you like/dislike about the size.

This truck will be driven in and out of a wood lot and 20's with 345's just won't work!

Thanks in advance.

Re: 69 GMC original tire size

The only help I've got is from my glove box build sheet on my 69 which lists wheel size( rim) as 15 x 5.50. Unfortunately I've never checked into original tire sizes.

Re: 69 GMC original tire size

I've got the original option list for 1969 Chevy and assuming GMC was the same and assuming your '69 is a 1500 from looking at your pics then you had a lot of choices; 5 1/2 inch rims-7.75x15,8.25x15,etc.-Tubeless (high tech of the day);7.75,8.25,6.50x16,8x16.5 (6"rims)etc. My '69 (a heavy 2500) came with 7.50x16 split-rims and the current 235/85/16s (E) are just fine for every day and work.Got a good deal at COSTCO and they are having their annual $60 off sale right now through 4 Feb.-Free flat repair, rotate+balance every 5K.

Re: 69 GMC original tire size

Sorry, yes it is a half ton, with 6 bolt wheels.

I will check the glove box and see what is says.

The truck presently has a miss matched set of 15 inch wheels. I am looking to replace with 15X7 rally wheels and then go to a reasonable tire size such as LT235/75R15.

If you are going to be getting different wheels anyway, get 16's. Those 235/85/16's will carry alot of weight. I assume that is what you're doing in the woodlot.

I don't plan to haul wood with my truck as I use a trailer. I may tow the trailer, bu mainly I hope to drive the truck back and forth to the woodlot when I am dropping trees and haul my saw and tools in the back.

I originally thought of going with 16 inch wheels, but I like the look of rally wheels. Yes 16 inch rally wheels are made but expensive!

Thanks everyone, I am going to go with 235/75R15's on my truck.
