6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
I have to swap out my 6 3/4 balancer and I was up at summit looking around and I saw some 8 inch balancers. Which one would be better to use on a stock 350?
Thanks

Re: 6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
The 8" balancer will perform its function better than a 6 3/4" can. (dampen the engine harmonics)
In this case, biger is better. It can be argured that it costs some HP, tho minimal.

Re: 6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
I would suggest the 8" on street driven engines for the better harmonic suppression.

Re: 6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
Ok what about the pulleys? Will they bolt up to a 8?

Yes the center hub and pulley bolt pattern is the same on both.

Re: 6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
I picked up a 8 inch the other day. I took off the 6 3/4 last night and the rubber was falling out of it. I got a new tab for it to. I will install it here in the next day or so. The truck is sitting in the driveway and I got a bunch more to do to it before it hits the road again

Re: 6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
most 8" balancer came from 4 bolt main engines and steel cranks

Re: 6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
skokie, It depends on the year of your truck and what options you have. On my 68 which was originally a 327 I had some interference with the power steering pump when I switched to a 8". I ended up having to switch to a later model power steering bracket to have enough clearance. If you don't have PS or already have the later model bracket the 8" should be fine and probably does a better job.

(Not recommended) Back when I started working on engines my first balancer install I taped it on untile i could get some threads started then impacted it the rest of the way. For the rest of the time I had that engine I had to soak the balancer bolt in red lock tight then install it becouse the impact stripped out the snout on the crank.

Re: 6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
I do have a installer tool that looks similar to what regenrat has there. I hope I dont run into the interference issue with the power steering. I may have to do a test fit to make sure.

Re: 6 3/4 or 8 inch balancer
the other problem with the hammer install is beating up the thrust bearing in the crankshaft
