Good for what? Boat anchors ? Yes!

Theyre small port, small valve heads. I guess they'd be OK for torque below 3000 rpm. After that your choking the engine . If you are loooking at having them rebuilt IMHO it doent make sense to rebuild old stock chevy heads any more. You can get much better heads new in the box if you shop around. I got my World Product S/R's for $415 for the set . I couldn't have had stock heads rebuilt with new seats, guides , valves and springs for that price and they run better than any chevrolet head .

Those are probably the original heads for you engine.
It depends what you want them to do for you.
If you are rebuilding a stock engine and have all the parts such as the block, manifolds intake and all brackets and accessories that were original to the truck and want to stay as true to original as possible.
Then they would be worth rebuilding but I would not put a lot of cash into them.
You could go with the newer heads that would give you more horsepower but be aware that you will probably have to change other items also.
Sometimes the newer parts won't have the same bracket holes, as the original one's which adds another dimension.

The Question's are
What kind of engine you would like?
Stock or modified?
How much can you afford?

A popular conversion that is fairly cheap to do and is easily modified would be the early sbc 350 with the 350th trans.
These can be obtained at reasonable prices and can be updated as the cash becomes available.

They do have small ports. But they are among the heads that are not prone to cracking around the water jackets. For stock or mild souping up, they would be alright
