Re: what's your ball and chain think?

my wife loves the old cars and trucks and as long as im not taking anything away from what we need to survive shes cool with it.. she gets annoyed if i leave a project sit too long she likes to see progress
anything i do with my trucks tho is not really expensive
the ex hated it all things with motors especially if i liked them

LMAO!

Well, I'm single and I'm trying to keep it that way long enough to graduate and drop every single cent into my truck for a year or so.

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

My wife absolutely isn't into car/trucks/anything automotive. Lets just say the 383 I'm building for the truck has sparked some colorful discussions, not to mention the countless mods to the camaro & sportbike. Something about putting a $5k motor in a truck I payed $1500 for doesn't compute with the level of estrogen in her head.

I'm like old Rusty, Whenever I'd work on my rides the ex would and after 5yrs. I finally told her this was and I'm out a here .....

The lady friend I have now will spin wrenches right along side of me and has even bought me some parts for my project truck.

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

My wife of five years has never said anything about what I spend on my projects. It probably helps that I drive older rigs so I have no payments and I did buy my step-kids cars (all three of them) and maintain them as well. And she doesn't mind driving them. Now my first wife.........

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

I'm with you SWB85! My wife absolutely isn't into anything automotive either, and she certainly doesn't understand the money a project consumes. Every year, we attend the Portland, OR Swap meet in April. I should say "I" attend. My wife drops me off at the gate and spends her day at the local malls. When we meet up later for dinner, I am usually excited to show her all the stuff I scored and I get the same ol' "who cares" stare!

Thumbs up Re: what's your ball and chain think?

My fiancee is kool with what i spend if she ever say's anything i allways tell her well i can allways start drinking again and go to the titty bars and really waste my money and that usually does the trick.

Some times she gets jealous of the truck and says you spend more time with that "Black *****" thats what she calls the Truck than you do with me.

But i hope things dont change when we get married.

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

well my hubby is not into autos, but he don't really say anything about what i spend on my rides, cause i have always made my own money and i spend it too

the way i feel about his hunting and fishing is, i would rather see him buy something for hunting or fishing than alot of other things going on, out in this world today.

imo ladies look at it this way, he is aleast home,in the grarge and not out somewhere getting in trouble.

keep on truckin

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

SWB85, sounds like the wifes has the same opinion. She does not understand why I spent 2 grand on rebuilding the 350 in my 76, when I purchased the truck for 500. She wants it to look pretty and still wants to use the old parts to do so. I told her in order to make it look pretty I have a purchase order from Summit for 2 grand. She blew a gasket!

Andrist1, My wife did the same thing at the Portland Swap meet. I am lucky she stopped to drop me at the front gate. It was like she could not get to the malls fast enough.

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

My wife is great. I don't spend a whole lot on car parts and modifications, because personally, I don't think they are worth the money in the long run. Stuff I've recently bought includes a mig welder, car lift and a survivor 1969 Z/28. **cough, cough**. The mig was $300, and the exhaust I was going to have to replace on her car was $280. The mig fixed the exhaust. The car lift was just real nice of her to let me get, and when I brought up the Camaro, her only question was "will it go up in value, and is a good investment?" She's one in a million.....

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

My wife is great about the trucks. Wouldn't trade her for anything. Of course I play the same game she does......ie, when she shows up with a new dress that she's stashed in the closet for two weeks it's the old "Oh, I've had this a while.." So when she comes out to the shop and sees a new part on the bench......."Aw girl, don't you remember when I told you about that? It's been here weeks"
Truthfully, she's great about my parts hoarding as long as it doesn't enterfere with the household budget.

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

Glad to hear I'm not alone
I've got the kicker right here guys/gals: I have a 500+hp LS1 camaro, 100rwhp sportbike and 450+hp truck (when the 383 is done) and the wife would "rather me stay away" from the drag strip because it's stupid to go that fast.
Never mind the fact that she'll drive 65mph worry-free on a 2 lane highway with cars passing each other mere feet apart while talking on a cell phone.....taking the toys to the drag strip with helmets/safety gear/emergency crews is too big of a risk to take.

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

I told my wife that the tax return was mine this year. She gave me the "Oh, really?" look and I reminded her that for the past 13 years she's claimed it for herself.

She asked me what I was going to spend it on. I pointed to the Silverado. She rolled her eyes at me and went back to playing on pogo.

I then reminded her that the last $2000 spent on cars has been on her Neon. She gave me a sheepish grin and said, "Good point. Ok, no arguments here."

Besides, she has to ride around with me in whatever I'm driving. In her most loving way of putting things, she said, "Hey, that means I won't have to ride in the rust bucket anymore then?"

No, honey. You won't have to ride around anymore in the most reliable vehicle we've ever owned.

Mine is ok with it since I supply the "toy funds" by working on other peoples rides. She does hate the lowered....which I love. I've had my Malibu nine years and the current Silverado almost a year....she's never rode in either. I married a car gal (17 years now) but motherhood changed her!

My wife is usually ok with some things. She knows if I want it, I am going to buy it, whether she approves or not.
Although, I don't buy the big things with out her $.02
And if she wants to buy something, I never say no.

Re: what's your ball and chain think?

I'm one of the lucky ones I guess,,,, found a good wife the first try!
as others have said as long as I make sure the bills and kids are taken care of she doesn't say a word about what I spend on projects. her dad has raced since before she was born.(everything from circle track, drag and now the pikes peak hillclimb and local smaller hill climbs) she pretty much grew up in the garage with him. she doesn't even get mad when I bring the boys back in the house covered in grease and dirt after working on a project!

She's actually into this stuff more than I am.
Her job even involves automobiles. When she comes home from work we talk about the cool stuff she did that day.
Customs, street rods and exotics are her specialty.
And right now she has the best truck in the family.

Yes this truck is hers. I get to drive it sometimes!
