Too much manifold and too much cam. The carb is right for the motor you have but the whole package is wrong for the street

I agree with Slam, the cam is likely the problem. Unless your running 11 or 12 to one compression it is going to be a real pain to drive on the street. Going with a duel plane and smaller carb may help cover up the problem but a smaller cam is the best fix. I don't think you will loose any power dropping back to a cam with seat durations of something like a 268-274. The combo you have now is very mismatched IMO. By the time you start to make some power with that big cam your heads are maxed out. You end up getting the disadvantages of the large cam and none of the benifits. Smaller cam duelplane and your choice of carb and you will be much happier.Just my .02 worth.

Actually, I believe the Tarantula was an Edelbrock product, not Weiand. It is build for power in the 3500 - 7500 rmp range. A 750 Holley carb is fine for the application. And the combination (750 Holley, Intake and cam) is a great setup for top HP, but the application should be in a bracket racer or a circle track racer. Certainly not a 4000# truck.

How big is that cam? What kind if vacuum are you holding at idle? To me it sounds like your cam is giving you fits. If you went from 72's to 62's on your jets then it sounds like you power valve is staying open. Holleys are easier to tune for a big cam mainly because you can go to any speed shop to get the parts. Edelbrock and Q-jet parts to make them work with a big cam are mainly mail order stuff but ethier one would kick butt when you get it right. GOOD LUCK

I don't know exactly what grind he has but I would guess its in the 245-250 deg at .050 range on a 110LSA. Thats a big stick for the street.A good cam for a high winding strip engine with a lot of compression, 4000+ converter, ported heads, open headers and 4.56 gear in a light car. A bottom end that can take 7,000 rpm wouldn't be a bad idea also.
