Another Frustrating Stupid Question!
On my six cyl., I was trying to tighten the bolt on the power steering bracket while keeping the belts tight, but the darn bolt wouldn't tighten! I slid the bracket out of the way to make sure I had it in the hole, I did, and then tried manually tighten it but the bolt just keeps spinning, never tightens! Found another bolt from the bolt drawer, it was a little shorter but I put 2 washers and a lock washer and it did the same thing! Did I strip the bolt(s) or the thing they go into? This is the second bolt that did this to me today, but I got another bolt and it worked, What gives?

Hey there. I don't have an awnser for you on what happened. But, I do need to see what the power steering brackets for a straight six look like. Could you post a pic of them for me? The only thing harder than trying to find an obscure part is trying to find it when you don't know what it even looks like.
Thanks

I had that. It turned out that the thread that I screwed the bolt into was stripped.

Slow down. Pull the bracket off, and get a bolt that has clean threads, and try to run it into the hole. If that isn't producing anything get a tap the same size as the bolt and see if you can run it into the hold BY HAND (don't try to retap the hole, you're just checking the condition of the threads), and then try the bolt trick again. If you stripped the hole out you may need to go get a helicoil set and install a new set of threads.
