You gotta give more info.Which column and tranny.What year(I don't think they changed the color code on wire,but....)

ok well i hooked it up and it only starts when in neutral and not park. i think its maybe cuz the switch is squished into the firewall...does that make sense?

Might check that your linkage on the trans is properly adjusted so that the shifter will will go all the way up into park on the column to trip the switch.

your column is pushed down too far.
