Will A 3/4 Drop Level My Shortbed???

I'm trying to figure out if a 3/4 drop will level my truck out. I want the front slightly lower than the back. What lowering kits do you reccomend?

a 3/4 drop should leave the front about 1 inch lower.usually thare needs to be a 2 inch difference to level it out.

I agree, use a 2/4 or a 3/5 drop. Front spindles and rear blocks will retain your ride quality. Springs are a little cheaper, but you do lose some ride quality.

Re: Will A 3/4 Drop Level My Shortbed???

for best results theres nothing like measureing the height of your front and rear bumpers subtract the front from the rear and thats how much more you need to drop the rear for it to sit leval

Re: Will A 3/4 Drop Level My Shortbed???

Thanks for the positive information. Oh yea, I do have a tape measure but I wanted to know how much of a drop I need from my trucks original ride height, not the height of it now with springs that are 35 years old and possibly have some sag...scrapmetal. Thanks anyway

Re: Will A 3/4 Drop Level My Shortbed???

I used a 2 1/2 drop spindle and a 5" drop spring in the rear,Left the back of the truck just a little higher.I also wanted the level look, without looseing my ride. This worked, can't tell the difference from stock and it dosen't bottom out.

I think the rears originally sat a good 3-4 inches higher.

Re: Will A 3/4 Drop Level My Shortbed???

Editorial comment on stepside lowering (for cultural enrichment only). I dropped my stepside as low as I could go with bags and springs. I just wanted it "level" with the tires even with the top of the wheel opening. Same size tires/wheels front and rear. I put the rear tire level with the rear wheel opening and front still had about 1+" to go. I put a level on the bed and the truck has a forward rake! I believe the wheel openings are designed to give the truck a forward rake so having it level may give it a nose up look.

Anyone else notice this with the fleetsides or are they different?

Yep the fenderwells are a different shape. The fronts have to have room for the tires to move side to side while moving up and down while the rear tires only have to go up and down. My K10 looks like it's slightly squatted in the rear (like most 4x4s do) but when I put a level on the bedside she has a forward rake!

Re: Will A 3/4 Drop Level My Shortbed???

If you get in touch with Early Classic they can give you the measurments for factory height ( before 30 years of use) then you can figure out how much lower you want the front and the back. That will tell you exactly what drop you will need. Hope that helps.

LMC has the stock heights in their catalog.

Re: Will A 3/4 Drop Level My Shortbed???

see ten, I guess I will just end up tucking both tires a bit and be happy with the forward rake.

Re: Will A 3/4 Drop Level My Shortbed???

On the rear of my truck I have three coils on both sides that are stuck together. Is that because they were heated or is it normal?

Quite normal for old sagged springs.

I assume that supposed to mean if he measured now he would know the answer.

Unfortunately that is not the case since there are so many variables in lowering a truck. Just because it's "advertised" as a 3-4 drop doesn't mean your going to get exactly 3" front and 4" rear.
