Tailgate... ASAP
Okay my cab just got painted yesterday and something happened to my NOS tailgate while my truck was in the shop and it's missing. I need a new tailgate ASAP because they are in the middle of paint. Are the repo tailgates any good? Where is the best place to buy?

Re: Tailgate... ASAP
I feel for ya , remind's me of how nobody could take a muscle car anywhere for engine work back in the 80's cause if it had high po part's like steel crank's 202 head's forged piston's and stuff they always turned up missing ,
nos tailgate missing ! well anyway the repro tailgate's look ok as long as you don't try to install them , they don't fit !

Re: Tailgate... ASAP
I'd have the shop buy me a new nos tailgate, nothing will fit like original.

Re: Tailgate... ASAP
not your problem ... tel the shop owner it had a GENUINE GM gate on it when it came in and it WILL have a GENUINE GM gate on it when it leaves. On his dime.

Well your GM gate is gone, an after market gate would still be there trust me! After market gates suck. I agree with the above opinions .... it's the shops problem not yours.

Re: Tailgate... ASAP
The shop owes you a NOS gate! I bet the one they put on will be your original (missing) one. Tell them you want to see it before the paint goes on it.

1. Tell them to put it back together, and pay w/e they charge to put it back. Then take it elsewhere, where I'll be in the same situation. 2. Write them a notice that it has to be completed in X number of time, and still pay the extra. 3. Suck it up and wait. Now basically since its off the record, they can say it was in horrible shape and screw me out of money. So it's just a waiting game now. |

Re: Tailgate... ASAP
I doubt anyone you know would be doing business like this in small town Oklahoma. They are very reputable and I don't want to bring their business down.

And how would you be bringing there business down? Down from what? A shop that steals or loses customers parts and won't replace them? You can't go down very far from that.

Re: Tailgate... ASAP
I agree that if it was in their building, it's ridiculous that they won't pay for it, unless they filed a police report that they had a break-in. If it was outside, you are pretty much at their mercy if they want to pay for it or not. As far as insurance goes, I can speak from experience (owned a shop for years) that most insurance won't pay squat. A garage keeper's policy with under a $500 deductible isn't common- it would be way too expensive. Most carry a much larger deductible. Some shops don't carry garage keepers coverage at all- they figure it is the customer's responsibility to have insurance on their vehicle, and as it sounds from your lawyer, the law would agree. Since you have stated that the work is being done under the table, i'm assuming you are getting a cut- rate deal. If so, that might be why they are refusing to pay for your loss.

Re: Tailgate... ASAP
You're kidding, right?
You come here and tell us these guys lost your gate and ask for advice ... we give you our best advice as to how we would handle it and then you start defending these guys and telling us how reputable they are. Come on, what's the real story ... cause I don't think we are getting it. |

Re: Tailgate... ASAP
i dont care how reputable they are the trucks in thier hands and there for its thier responability and they need to take care of it
if it were me in your spot i wouldnt care how good of a shop they are and how long ive known them, id be ont here ass for my gate not being there and if they told me to shove it then i would turn around and tell them the same and take my truck back and refuse to pay for anything other then whats already been done
