Question Is This Normal (np205?)

For all you guys out there that know your way around an NP205 transfer case, is it normal for them to push out a lot of gear oil thru the speedo cable drive? Is there a seal or gasket inside this area that would stop the flow?

Need to do something quick.

Thanks,

Re: Is This Normal (np205?)

sounds like either the plastic speedo gear has worn out, maybe has a groove worn into it, or the small lip seal around the speedo gear is shot. When either of these happen the speedo cable acts like an auger and pushes the oil up the cable. maybe time to replace the assembly.
good luck -steve

Question Re: Is This Normal (np205?)

Steve, is the speedo drive assembly available from anywhere new? OR maybe somebody out there has a used one (for a Chevy NP205) that doesn't leak and they want to part with it?

Thanks Steve,
