Cardone remanufactured parts?

I'm needing a new steering gear and instead of taking my chance on a 30 year old part I thought I would just buy a reman unit. Local O'rielly auto has Cardone unit for 136.00, didnt think that sounded to bad..are these good units or should I look for anither brand?
Are there really any advantages of using the more expensive AGR or PSC units?

Re: Cardone remanufactured parts?

I really have not tried the OReilly reman'd but that is a decent price. I used a NAPA reman in my 72 K20 and it has held up well for the last 5 years. It feels fairly tight and no leaks. I paid wholesale around $175 back then. I have boughten two NOS units since, a 2wd and one for a 4wd and they were around $275 and $350. Mark

Re: Cardone remanufactured parts?

No experience with those. But,if they`re warranted...how will you know a good rebuild from another? The warranty takes care of that.I bought a 4wd gear from GM quite a few years ago and with my discount I recall paying about $350.

I don't know how you guys will feel about this but AutoZone sells Cardone also. I guess they must be junk.

Re: Cardone remanufactured parts?

AGR sells a brand steering box new not used and it's a quicker ratio box// but it's a pricey choice// i've had a couple of rebuilt boxes from carquest(rebuilder unknown) over the years with no issues

Re: Cardone remanufactured parts?

Warranty isnt that much of an issue with me, I just dont want to be changing it again in 6 months or broke down on the road.
I would gladly spend more for a better part, can you feel the difference in an AGR box?

Also thought about running an inline filter and cooler on the pump, alot of the older Ford cars and trucks came factory with them.

Re: Cardone remanufactured parts?

I used Cardone stuff for years when I was running shop- not too bad of stuff. Their rebuilt CV shafts don't seem to last as long as the originals though. I usually got gearboxes from Inland. A little higher priced, but you can specify a slow or fast ratio. Trying to get the one you want from the popsicle stands usually results in nothing more than a blank glare
